    Prepay mobile. Leave me anonymous!

Looks like some noise police want to make it law that we have to register our cell phones. This would be but a small help to their police work and would harm our freedom.

This wouldn't help as anyone truly wanting to hide stuff will always find a way. Encryption, homing pigeons, etc.

This would cause unnecessary hassle when buying a phone.

If it helps stop grims stealing bikes/home invasion/fencing stolen goods etc, I'm all for it.
    Nothing to hide, no problem.

will not stop many crims, they will just use false id to reg phone or use a stolen one. It reeks of yet another invasion of our privacy.

Cool, then we'll let the cops put up CCTV cameras everwhere, and give them the power to monitor all our emails and phone calls.

After all if you don't do anything wrong you have nothing to fear.........

it's pretty much exactly what you said with a centralised (and autonomous) computer that controls it all in order protect the 'greater good'... ends up killing people etc etc, turning everyday citizens into 'terrorists' in order to save the president.

The donut muncher's are now too fat and lazy to use the technology available to them to track down the problem phones. Oh dear.

If they put cellphone blockers in all the jails, half of the problem would go away.

I for one will not be participating in this further encroachment into an individual's rights to do as they please, without Big Brother looking over your shoulder 24hrs per day.

Unfortunately pretty much everything we do these days leaves an electronic foot print.

    Eftpos
    Banking
    Credit Cards
Library Cards (this one is for getting BOOKS out)
    Internet
    Video Cards
Probably can track sky so what you watch etc
    Passports
    IRD
    etc

Hard to be fly beneath the radar these days.
OOOOO I shouldn't of said that.....

Its necessary to know who is calling whom... before there is much point in recording the calls.

Are you quite sure that that's the stance you want to take on such matters?

I hear that they're going to implement GPS trackers on all vehicles, with an RFID linking your license and bank account to the vehicle. You speed, you get debited. Not speeding, no problem... slippery slope given the reach that clutch of technology can now have.

Subike is on to it though... crims will just steal more phones than they do now.
