    Pirelli wets, pressure?

    hi,

I was wondering what tyre pressure is recommended for Pirelli's Diablo rain tyres?
Do I run the usual 30/28 as I do with the SuperCorsas or are the wets different?

    thanks!

I usually run mine at around 26 for both.
But that will differ with different styles, bikes etc.

You should ask the people that Import them. Having said that, almost all the wets I've worked with run around 10% more pressure than the dry equivalent. You don't get much heat build up in the wet, so pressures may be quite different. That was certainly true with Metzler and Conti.
Ask the Pirelli Importer to be sure.

    just spit balling

at the wet pacific series early this year i went out with dry pressures for race 1, increased pressures 3 psi for race 2 and gained 4 seconds a lap. the way i understand it by increasing the pressures the tread retains its original shape better thus spreading water is easier for the tyre, this theory may be shot out the window of course as I was not using full wets, but i did do pretty well that day. im not sure about getting and keeping the tyre hot enough, if its a proper racing wet and not a cut slick then im sure it will have a much lower operating temp anyway. i dont know the answer sorry but you aint gonna catch me arguing with 4 secs a lap.
I'm off to the pub, I may be sometime.

Not sure about wets but attended the bike training day at Manfield with Brian Bernard on Saturday. His advice was for the track to run the same if not slightly higher pressures. As has been summised, his reasons being that if you lower the pressure then the grooves close up under braking, cornering etc and reduce effectiveness whereas the normal or slightly higher pressures help them keep their shape/width.

I was there as well and had a great time!
Luckily I didn't have to try the wets as I was ready to pack up when the rain started.

    Cheers
