METZELER RACE SLICKS!!

Has anyone had experience with them???

Am looking at a couple of deals for myself, but have never used them or their road versions either!
What are peoples comment about them???

Metzelers make the best road racing tires which are Racetecs. For sports, no one has been unhappy about the Sporttec, that I know of and ofcourse Roadtec is a brilliant sports touring tire. However, I haven't tried their slicks yet tho I hardly think it'll be anything but good.

Can you score an extra set of slicks for me, sparky?? Buddy??

On the road, the Raceteks are sublime. I've never ridden on a better tyre.

At the track, it was extremely easy for the thou' to over power the rear tyre. Alot more control is to be gained with some set up, but ideally, I'd want a pair of slicks. The way Glenns bike hooked up outta slower corners left me shaking my head in frustration.

That's what everyone says but I always found superior grip with Metzelers over the Pirellies. That was back when it was Rennsport Vs. Supercorsa.

Now that it's Racetec Vs. Supercorsa, I don't know why anyone would bother with Pirelli, unless I missed something.

It's hard to say cause I don't race often and everytime I go out there I just have a quicker time than the last time (cause I am still at the stage of learning heaps).

But I will tell you one thing tho. With supercorsas, my arse end slides a hell of a lot more and the front end gives away noticalby quicker. It could all be in my mind I guess but I have found that quite a few other racers feel the same way.

As I said, there used to be a comparison when it was Metzeler Rennsport Vs. Pirelli Supercorsa but the Metzeler Racetecs are the new and improved version of the Rennsports which means, Pirelli really has to come up with something new and improved as well to be as good as Metzeler.

I am not a racer and can only comment that I just got some road compound Rennsports from trashy for a great price. oh yeah, i had rennsports(RS1/2) on an r6 & the 750 & i loved them for the beautiful neutral feel & grip.

No shame in that Jimmy, the guy can ride AND has a well set up bike.

When it comes to race tires, there are things I like to know before I'd consider them and these are:-

Construction - how its put together, whether it has hard sidewalls and the like. This also covers profile. Basically, I like to know how much rubber will be on the ground at certain angles and if that rubber will flex and how much by. It helps in understanding if the tire is going to be predictable at a lean angle or unpredictable given a specific speed.

Greasyness - how much silicon and oil is used in the tire. Whether its like michlen and low greasyness or dunlop with a higher amount. This is so I know how much the tire is going to slide and move and if I can plant it in the same place every time or if it needs a bit of pushing around.

Temp range - what the operating temp is of the tire, eg soft 10-30C medium 15-55C and hard 40-90C. No point in putting a medium tire on when its a freezing cold day, likewise no point in putting a soft on when its going to melt 5 mins later.

Duration - How long a tire is expected to last at its ideal temp and at a certain speed. Also the number of heat cycles that the tires will go thru before they turn to powder or become unusable.

I'm sure there is proper tire terminology for all this stuff and I wish the tire folks would print the info on their websites - even if its in marketing speak. Currently you really just have to guess what you are getting. And being one of little dosh, I cant really afford to test the entire michlen truck just to find one I like

Sometimes I think thats why road tires are often so much better for the budget racer.
