Palmerston to Wellington, via Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast - Catwalk Conquest Tour

The CatWalk Trust has been given the opportunity to import and promote a Martin Conquest motorcylce from the UK. The Conquest is a 3 wheeler motorcyle designed for users in wheelchairs. It is doing a national tour, Auckland to Southland, late October and early November. I would like to see how many kiwiriders are keen to join the various legs of tour. Currently, I'm only going to post details for the legs I'm interested in, but if interest is high, I'll post details for the remaining legs.

Please post any information on recommended cafe/pit stops along the way.

The Palmerston to Wellington leg will be on Wednesday, 5th November. Assembly at Gull Service Station, 8am.

    - Leaving Gull, Palmerston North 8:30am, arriving WBS, Masterton 10am

    - Leaving WBS, Masterton 11am, arriving White Swan, Greytown 11:30am

    - Leaving White Swan, Greytown 1pm, arriving Coastlands, Paraparaumu 2:30pm

    - Leaving Coastlands, 4pm, arriving Wellington 5pm, have a bit of a drive around.

    - Arrive at Museum Hotel, Wellington 7pm for a function (got your tickets?)

Conquest then has a ferry trip to Picton Thursday morning for the next leg, Picton to Kaikoura

How well does the thing handle LG? There's some nice backroads from P/N to Masterton.

I'm not sure what it handles like. It's the first one in the country, so it'll be interesting to hear what the various riders have to say. Each leg of the tour is driven by a different rider, giving a few people a chance to have a go.

I'm, hoping that Palmerston Nth to Greytown will be via Pahiatua track. That's always a nice ride. I'm also hoping (and I think this is the case) that Greytown to Paraparaumu will be via Rimutaka Hill Rd, Haywards Hill Rd, and Paekakarirki Hill Rd. My wife and I did Akatarawa the other weekend, and it has been badly damaged by all the recent rain (1st/2nd gear most of the way). Paekak Hill is very cool.

Just a note - I have it on reasonably good authority that a TV crew from Maori Television will be filming the first leg of the Conquest's run out of Palmerston North tomorrow, to as far as Masterton. So if you've got some bikes & people turning up in support for the run, that first leg from Gull tomorrow morning is where you really want them.

Anyone else fancy a few hours off tomorrow afternoon to meet the Conquest at, say, Rimutaka Summit them to Prm & back to Wgtn - it's gotta beat working !!
