    GB400TT assistance please

    Hi Gang.
Recently acquired a 1987 Honda GB400TT. My inquiry is whether a single seat unit from a GB500 would fit on to a 400? Through Econohonda I have sourced the single (cafe look) seat, but they require my bike so that they can copy the mounting brackets for the base. Unfortunately I am located in Chch and they are up in Te Aroha. Any suggestions, tips or alternative sources would be appreciated.

    Cheers.

Is the seat an OEM GB500 item? If it is it should fit no problems at all.

Should be a moulded peice on the RHS of the plastic seat pan for the hinge pivot screw to go through and a stud and moulded ridges on the LHS of the seat for the locking lug to locate in. Have a gander at your one and you'll see what I'm talking about. The only thing you should need to swap over is the locking lug. Whole swap should take around 15mins.

Only real differences between two models was the engine capacity and some 500s a clean air set up and indicators in some markets.

I'd get them to send you an email with a photo attached, of the underside of the seat they have so you can compare it with your one.

Yes they are the same. A friend of mine had a 500, and got a single seat off a guy with a 400...

You could just get your exisiting seat altered to cafe style. Any decent automotive apolsterer can do it.

    To Woodman

I sourced this item through Econohonda who are Honda parts specialists. They reckoned approx $100 for the base, the upholstery etc would be extra.

    Cheers.

Econohonda reckoned they needed the bike, I offered to send pictures of the mounts etc if that would help but they said they had to have the bike...

    Cheers.

Bonez, you could be on to something with getting the existing seat done up at an upholstery shop. Yep, most of what I've seen and heard is that the 4 and 500's are very much the same machine. What Econohonda have is a third party with a GB500 (single seat) mould, they then get them made to order but need to copy mounts etc to the base.

    Cheers!

There's a pic in my attachments of reupholstering that what was done to my GB by a previous owner. It's certainly not OEM, from all the other GBs I've seen, but looks good and you can take a pillion on it if things get deserate. It's not as comfy as the dual seat though.

Btw Eurodave in Christchurch may be able to wip up something also.

Thanks Bonez, I think the reupholstery job is looking the best option. Nice job on your GB, looks the part for sure.

    Cheers!
