Unhappy *#!!! swearing in thread titles

I really enjoy surfing through KB and get a lot of advice/pleasure from the various threads. I do get hacked off by the amount of swearing in thread titles. It means I can't view the site when my kids are around and is unnecessary. You can always add ##***!!! if you need to let off steam.

I don't want to stop people expressing themselves but if swearing is kept within the post rather than the title at least you could browse with the younger ones around. I notice most people are able to get their message across without turning the 'interweb' blue.

comments, apart form the obvious four letter ones.

Yeh swear werds is bad for the little kiddies. I have seen lotsa little bogan just-walking toddlers who wander around with their naps just barely hangin' on, with eyebrows knit and a glare on their widdle face, chucking toys on the floor and scolding fuck! bitch! and cunt! Thinking back, those were some of the funniest things I have ever seen. Their dads looking on ever so pleased and proud.

Agreed. Unfortunately the only way this could ever be enforced is if the mods decide to introduce a rule. KB is good because it's a very liberal site without too many rules, personal abuse being the one no-no. I notice long-term members avoid swearing in thread titles.

It would be hard for Moderators to create a rule for "swearing" in thread titles or anywhere else, for that matter. "Swearing" is a completely subjective state of mind. Words are words, and their "meaning" a matter of context.

If people aren't comfortable explaining the meanings of words to their children and providing a rationale for swearing and the usage of language generally, then that isn't Kiwi Biker's problem. For a small fee I can come around to people's houses and do this task for them, if they feel uncomfortable about talking with their kids.

I have used cuss words in the titles of threads I have created, and will continue to do so whenever I feel that they are appropriate. Any prudes who have a problem with that should, in the words of the prophet, Harden The Fuck Up.

Baa ha ha, what a joke. Personal abuse is a no no on KB'er? Then how come A certain KB'er mentor gets a slap with a wet bus ticket, on a regular basis. There is no big "no no" & "if this continues then you'll actually be dealt with", instead we'll do exactly what we did the last 50 times.............2 fifths of feck all! Which will only encourage said person to rinse & repeat, which they do at will.

So yeah if by "a no no" you mean the punishment is a few weeks without a couple of site functions only to rinse & repeat at the very next opportunity then yes it is a no no

ps: don't ever recall starting a thread with a swear word in the title, but will do my part to curb that, for the sakes of the children, of course
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Not too conducive to working either, is it?

This is an 'adult' site for adults. If people want their kids play in here then they gotta understand that some things may not be suitable.
Man, next they'll let kids into cafes...oh wait...

Words are just words to children, there is no 'right' or 'wrong'. Their perceptions of words have been taught, so if they recognise a word as being bad, then thats something their parents have already exposed them to, and its not up to us to filter it for them.

Put another way, if a child is smart enough to recognise FUCK as a 'swear word' then I'm sure they're bright enough to work out that F#@K is the same word.

It seems to me this is coming right slowly. I think owners and moderators are embarrased by these peoples' actions and flattened by the workload of dealing with it. One way or other it can't last - either the people who get targetted will leave, or those who do the deed will get banned, so now we will see who is really the strongest - first impressions are not always correct.

I intend to remember who the perpetrators are/were, and I do not care how long they live out in the cold for - it certainly isn't my problem - I didn't create it.

Hats off to those who reigned in their abusive manner, but the damage has been done and you will not be forgotten by at least half of KB who you displayed your character, or rather lack of it, to.

    Have a great day!

How easy would it be to make a filter that one can turn off and on in their User CP? Much like the dirty avatars.
