They're not going to help, we've just warned them so they don't arrest people.

So we should remove the mantra from their vehicles? I can't understand why they won't assist at (at least some) intersections.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

The idea would be to have more bikes in front of the hurst than behind, that way if we get split up at an intersection the front bikes could drag their feet on the ground and wait for the rest to catch up.All the traffic lights are on dual lanes so other traffic can pass us

I know this will already have been thought of but in case it hasn't. - It's probably a good idea to get the folks with floro vests to ride point and TEC.

Also. Maybe we could have people put their hand up who are prepared to take a pillion. That way anyone coming in their cage but would like to join the procession on a bike - even if it is pillion, could bring their gear with them and grab a lift.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

    Traffic Management

Shit we probably could have helped with the intersections but im away in Palmy on Thursday, the NZ Police dont even help with parades anymore or very rarly they are just too busy.

I didnt know Grub but my sincere condolences to his family at this very difficult time.

    Cheers.

Someone needs to make the call whether we block intersections while escorting the hearse or not, if its split at a set of lights carnage could ensue if the front crew try to slow down or stop !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

It's illegal to do so and can result in unpleasant consequences for the people caught doing it.

You start at a common point and finish at a common point. There'll still be large blocks of motorcycles traveling together. I think the point will still be made irrespective of how large or small the group is.

Elephant pond slight change of plan

We need to leave earlier to get to the house at 1PM. If possible can we push back the elephant pond to meet at 12:30, leave 12:45 - with comments on whether this is a bit tight. I'll edit the original post (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/sh...90#post1804890) too...

Big ups to Ranty Dave for sticking his hand up to help. Well done mate.

    Following your lead, I've spoken to Mom and Kari (amongst others) today about the drive from the church to the airport so here's the plan ;

The church service starts at 2.00pm and should take an hour or so. There's some suggestion that we may have tea / coffee afterwards so the hearse will not leave the church until 3.45 - 4.00pm (ish).

Leaving the church, the route will take us down Discovery Drive, left onto Paremata Road to SH1 and on to Wellington. The intention is that the bikes will lead the hearse with any other cars behind the hearse.

As we approach Wellington we'll turn left (at the ferry terminal) onto Aotea Quay and head along Aotea / Waterloo / Customhouse & Jervois Quays then into Cable Street (past Te Papa) then hang a left into Oriental Parade. This was one of Brett's favourite bits of local road and Kari has requested we take him this way. Oriental Parade joins Evans Bay Parade which finishes just past the yacht club (a good place to re-group perhaps ?) where we turn left into Cobham Drive. Follow the signs for the airport. Straight on at the first roundabout and turn right at the really big roundabout at the end of Cobham Drive into Calabar Road. Keep in the right hand lane. Go straight on at the next small roundabout (the Caltex station should be on your left) then get into the left lane and follow the road (the golf club should be on your left) until you see the DHL Couriers building. Turn right at the end of the building into Freight Drive. Look for the Air New Zealand Cargo signs. The road curves round behind DHL building where it joins a chainlink fence to a carpark area on the right hand side. Follow this fence line around the right hand corner then turn first left. The Air NZ building is at the end of this short street. (You'll see a huge lighting tower as you make this last turn)

This last bit is a bit tricky so I did a short video earlier today but it's taking bloody ages to upload so I'll post the link later tonight - assuming it uploads.

Air NZ have agreed that we can park along the side of the big timber fence provided that we keep their entrance accessible for other customers, trucks, etc. We may not be there for too long anyway so it shouldn't be an issue.

Airport Operations have also been notified so they won't get concerned when we all rock on up.

Once we've said our goodbyes and left Brett in the care of the good people at Air NZ there was some thought of continuing the celebration somewhere.

    Any suggestions ??

    Graeme
