Instead, the heads of the Maori tribes (most of them) signed a treaty which made them subjects of the British Crown in return for them retaining, if you read the Maori version, sovereignty over their land, and if you read the English version, ownership.

Big difference.

And that difference led to a lot of sales and purchases by private individuals and confiscations of land by the British Crown that were completely out of alignment with the understanding that was given to the tribal heads who signed the treaty.

That is the basis of modern treaty claims, and the reason why many descendants of those Maori feel hard done by.

Now, you may well scoff at all of the above, but by doing so, you simply show how far the British race has fallen.

From a noble empire that did its finest work in creating the world's youngest democracy here (even if that work was subsequently perverted), to a nation of snivelling, grasping chavs... very sad.

I am not related to anyone who manipulated the old Maori people nor did I do that myself so it makes me sick to think that because of that my rights as a New Zealander could be downsized because of people who think like you. I would like to be able to go to the beach when I want with out being charged. After all I have grown up in the same country under the same stars as the maori living today so why should I be any different? Most Maoris I know don't have any radical views on foreshore and seabed like you. Unless you are trolling, in which case: Touchet!

I can drive around Levin, and see pensioners on $250 a week, living in a clean and tidy home, recycling bin loaded to the hilt, mowed lawns, and nice garden. Grandad will have cleaned the '82 corolla and will be calling in at the club for a beer after helping his mate with the dodgy leg fix the chainsaw so they can get some more cheap firewood.

I can look across the road and see another household, with a better tax payer-provided income, and a cheap state house.

But they are sitting on the back step smoking. The lawns are overgrown, and there is a car on its side. I can't see their yappy dog, cos its likely to be pissing on my car.

They don't have a recycling bin, and they may as well not have a rubbish bin, cos its on its side, and the shit is blowing down the street.

My vietnamese refugee neighbour arrived in NZ 10 years ago, with a ripped shirt, a pregnant wife and and two kids who couldn't speak english.

As long as Maori kids keep getting brought up in violent negative environments where underachievement and criminality is expected and encouraged.

I can't think of any solutions off the top of my head, other than stuffing 'em all into gas chambers until the problem no longer exists. Apparently you're not allowed to do that these days, though. Someone tried it once, but was stupid enough to declare war on the entire world at the same time, and got distracted.

Like my dear old grandmother always said, y'know, do one job at a time and everything falls into place in the end.
