    The fucking maori politics

my views on the maori part

These came apparent when the maori party came on campus seeking support.

i thought they were pretty racist..

"as maori, we don't have a lot, so a economic crisis wont impact us that much"

excuse me? i found that one hard to swallow, but what i found more hard to swallow was the way they kept bleating on about how much help maori need.
they constantly talked about maori as "the nigger boy"

so i guess what they were trying to put across is:
you and your people need us to help you out in government, cause you cant stand on your own two feet.

    pathetic

the people that were standing around me are bright, talented, caring beautiful people, they do not need to be pushed around like political pawns, my fellow classmates and tutors do not need to be told how to run their lives.
their policy of cranking up benefits will only make people more reliant on the system.

they never wanted to go into specifics, or how they would want to archive their goals.
it seems in NZ your favorite political party is like a favored sports team:
"they can never do any wrong"

wake up people, they take your money, tell you how to live, and tell me, what do you get in return?

the rich pay for the poor, and the poor pay for the rich...

all we see is power hungry people, bickering how to spend your/our money, and tell us what we can and cant do.

NZ is strong enough, we do not need them.

we can choose our own path

I don't think the Maori party is socialist, per se. Heck, they can't be, if they're prepared to go into government with John and Rodney.

I don't think they're anything ist, really. They just want to be a 'voice for the brown man'.

And, it's true that many Maoris these days are born into a cynical world of deprivation, violence and zero hope. Even if the Maori Party doesn't have solutions for everything right now, it can't be a bad thing that someone is focusing on those problems.

Because, let's face it, the blue folk in Parliament would probably prefer to just stuff the natives into gas chambers, and the red folk don't really give a fuck just so long as they can manipulate the savages into voting for them and joining their all-powerful trade unions.

I'm quite happy to sit back and judge them on their actions over the next three years. It's far too easy to erroneously accuse people who approach things from a different perspective of being motivated by bad faith.

    two short things:

i spent alot of time in the south of the US and there blacks and whites dont get along. and its not a white hates black and vice versa thing. its people feeling the need to make themselves special. aka the maori party. if you have a party that says maori's are "born into a cynical world of deprivation, violence and zero hope" then do you ever think they might try improve themselves. its a bit of a fucking joke. if you purposly define yourself based on your ethnicity and not your beleifs your always gonna be discrimintaed against.

second i find it stupidly rich that a party that acheives a paltry 2% of the popular vote gets there 2 seats in parliment that they acheive from the maori electorate, PLUS 3 more. come on now.

im not saying there isn't racism out there, and that there arent difficulties but the current system is a crock of shite being milked like nothing else.

    It's called Politics...

With the Maori, there is also the 'Tall Poppy Syndrome' .... Where if a young one in the family is 'too bright/intelligent' they better cut it out or they'll show up the rest of the family. This possibly happens to a certain degree in other cultures but I have seen it alive and well in far too many Maori families.

Both of you are right, of course.

But it's amazing how powerful being told something every day can be when that's all you hear.

The solution to the problems created thereby is, of course, for those who know better to speak up against the negativity and take action to prove that it's unnecessary.

And that seems to be what the Maori Party is trying to do.

    I wish them well.

I think people are going a little far with the racism against maoris thing. They have more privaleges than the rest of NZers. I mean come on, unis specifically for them. And the right to close off your tribes land that you don't even officially own because your tradition says so. That is fair because it was after all their land, but other races haven't been so lucky. The Maori party actually compared Maoris to the American indians once. I would find this so damn offensive if I was an American Indian. Did the Maoris get massacred without so much as a valid, internationally recognised treatie and become the minority in their own country? No. I got racism from a few people for my German herritage at school. They were Maoris making me out to be hitler. Told every damn authoritive figure in the school and they got told to knock it off and that was all. Called one of them a nigger to prove a point later on and surprisingly half of the students and teachers in the school came down on me/rant
