I'm not a big fan of anyone telling me when exactly to be generous or romantic or just doing the above on a specific date. Seems a bit contrived, commercial and frankly - un-romantic.

Oh, there will be a token gift, as much for the kids sake as anything but I save the really nice stuff for random times or when they are really needed. And I'm not going into that at all!

Valentines day seems just another Hallmark holiday..... (ka Ching!) Or a good day for a machine gunning.....

Well done mate. Hope you have a great day.
Talk of weddings make me nervous. I've been engaged to my lady for 9 years and for some reason she thinks it's about time I made an honest lady out of her. :spudwhat:

I'm with Paul, I see Valentines day as simply an attempt by card companies and flower shops etc to squeeze more money out of us gullible consumers.

I just be nice to my lady for one of only two days of the year (her birthdays the other one - joke), then a few weeks later take her out for a meal.

I buy her flowers and stuff through the year anyway, so I don’t see why I must buy them on a specific day because Hallmark tell me I must and the flower shops want to charge me double/triple what I'd normally pay.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's just turned into a commercial affair where you feel you have to buy something or else you're being 'unromantic'. That's one of the reasons we chose Feb 14, to us now it will be our anniversary, not Valentines day anymore.

Oh, and because Tim thinks he's got more chance of remembering the date. :sly:

Never done anything valentines, never going to - just more american crap foistered upon us - money,money,money...Apparently it was our anniversary sometime last week,an email appeared in my box from the MIL mentioning it,deleted straight away - we both don't want to remember that day 24 yrs ago when we did something just to please the prudes who didn't want their grandaughter labeled a bastard.

We don't do Valentines Day either. I'm with those who think its a little commercial to send flowers on a designated day. We're so slack we can't even remeber the date we first went out or when we moved in together. Sometimes we even have trouble remembering what year we got together!! We remember the date we went into business though. Maybe if we get married we'll do it on that date so we both remember.

Works even better if you do it when she feels like it..

Why do you girls like getting? What do guys like getting?

Seriously, does anyone like getting the traditional roses, chocolate and card?

Has anyone been proposed to, or got married on the day?

Has anyone had a date that went horribly wrong?

I'll start ... I like getting something thoughtful. Doesn't mean expensive. I got a poem once, and it was about 5 lines long, and written on a piece of scrap paper. Best Valentines gift I've ever had.

do you really "love to hear Valentines Day stories" get a freeking life
