The top ten US cities for violent crime belong to states which are a mixture of restrictive and liberal gun laws. There's simply no correlation.

Top ten US cities ranked by violent crimes per 100,000 population in 2007:

Detroit, Michigan

Baltimore, Maryland

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

A nice amount of statistics that say little. There is no breakdown of "cause" (e.g. knife, club, firearm, etc)
The interesting part is when you change the display to "State" and Kalifornia is the biggest appearance.
That state has some of the toughest firearm laws.

California and Texas have a large number of jurisdictions because they are the largest states in the USA (Texas = 2nd largest land area, California = 3rd largest land area).

I'm not saying that shooting people because of road rage is socially acceptable, but I can understand. There are some really dumb drivers out there that should be taken off the road. The means to do so requires debate. This guy clearly took the more direct approach.

We all think given the fact that most of us are victims of crappy drivers one way or another that what this guy did was understandable. But for all we know he was high on P and thought that a 20 ton 18 wheeler was banging on his bumper tooting his horn.
