I am keen for a 2 pc set for road/stunt riding.
Ahhh fuck it, someones got to do it, might as well be me.
Wildcat, don't take this the wrong way, but you're new here. As far as I know, none of members on this board have met you. This cheap leathers thing seems too good to be true, and I personally am not keen on parting with my hard earned cash until someone who is well known here has had the chance to meet you, or you can provide me with a verifiable name address and phone number
Please don't be offended by this, but this does remind me of some of the stuff that happens on ebay/ trademe etc. IE: incredibly good deal, deposit only required...
Look, I'm sure you're just a good bloke thats stumbled across an awesome deal that nobody has ever thought to look for, and you want to help out your fellow bikers. But there's a lot of arseholes out there, and you can't be to careful.
Sorry dude, I hate doing stuff like this but I think it had to be done.

umm not sure that leather fall into clothing if they have CE armour in them as they are then safety equipment. they therefore dont get the 32% tax, unless they are just harley look good leathers or something.Originally Posted by cowpoos

If it is only 300ish for the 1 piece I would be keen, cant have too many toys!
and meeting up with some of the Auckland crew to calm the nervous would be good, I know I haven't been stung dealing over the net yet (touches wood, crosses fingers ...) , but that would give people more confidence in handing over the dosh

I wouldn’t expect anyone to trust me either- not even the guy’s that have met me.
If it’s all above board, you’ll be taking on a hell of a challenge. Imagine if the leathers arrive and they’re crap, or they arrive and they’re good, but a couple go missing in the post…
Depending on the results of the above post, there might be some things I can do to help you out if you need it. My wife is looking into it so I won’t say anything till I know for sure.
One thing I did find out, the freight cost for DHL should include the customs clearance and duties etc as it would with FedEx. The duties I posted were the result of a phone call made to a specialist customs broker, so they should be on the money. Hey Cowpoos, I know a guy from Canty with that nickname- you don’t own a lowered Merc do you?

OK, listen up, tread carefully dude, I've been there and done that. I worked for an importer and a few years ago looked at doing this, different company though. Do not trust anyone. What I did was got some samples sent first, you may have to pay, ask for two or three samples. The Pakistani company I looked at claimed to make the leathers for Fieldsheer, they sent me a couple of Fieldsheer suits that looked pretty good, they then sent me another couple with colour design I wanted, as they claimed they couldnt supply Fieldsheer branded leathers, fair enough. I'd had a name sorted too, Pro Speed Imports. Told them I wanted EXACTLY the same suit as the Fieldsheer sample but rebadged Pro Speed. The next set that turned up looked NOTHING like the quality of the Fieldsheer, almost looked like they had never made a leather suit before in their life. Seriously! They were shite! Also stumbled onto the company in China that allegedly made leathers for Nankai, I had importers catalouge that listed a company that made leathers and had a photo of some trick Nankai gear. I wrote to them and they sent me photos of racks with Nankai, Dainese, Alpinestar etc Shit I'm onto something here, but I think what was happening was they were getting good stuff, trying to copy but had nothing like the quality and didnt appear to know the first thing about motorcycle racing. They also started talking container loads or minimum 500 pieces etc ummm not for this kid, I thought at the time if I could move 20 pices I would be doing bloody well.
Again, tread carefully, you can be ripped big time!!
If it was that easy everyone would be doing it![]()
The duty I paid for one piece suits at the time was zero, but a 2 piece will incur duty, something to do with protecting local businesses, as I recall.
I even talked to Nankai in Japan regarding picking up distribution rights for NZ. At the time they were retrenching and were only concentrating on the Japanese domestic market and werent interested in exporting to NZ.
Also made contact with Fieldsheer in the States, he was pretty cool and sent me all their latest catalogues etc, think I've still got them somewhere. They didnt really know much about NZ market, I sent him some info but really we're talking a very small market. Also spoke with Don Stafford from Stafford m/cs in Australia, he is the Oz distributor but again the pricing and market wasnt really there.
Fieldsheer still do some pretty cool stuff!
I ended up selling the Fieldsheer stuff locally so someone somewhere got a pretty good deal.

Sorry, been out all night...
Hey TonyB...yep I absolutely agree with you about wanting to meet and calm the nerves...I certainly wouldn't part with my money without some sort of solid explanations etc. I think if any of us go through with this then we would need a serious sit down and plan it out...
To be honest there has been a much greater response than I first thought, and if it all went through we could be talking serious money...looking easily around $5000 total costs with 20+ people...I rang a customs broker as well (Doug, at Merz & Assoc) and he looked up the duty which is 14% (you were right on the money).
I thought perhaps there might be 5 or so people who might be willing to get a few items, but then talk is cheap and anyone can say they want a cheap deal with no effort involved...
I appreciate you questioning how valid this is...granted I'm new to the bike scene and we haven't met. Anyway I wouldn't expect people to part with any money without a concensus (sp?) they were happy with, and without the support of a few you 'not-so-new' KB's. To be honest, I'm pretty worried about the huge logistical nightmare it could be with 20+ people ordering items and colours.
I've had a quote from them (feel free to email them - I waiting for a response from Fri last week) but the high shipping costs for 1 item almost doubled the cost of the items (EUR100) but an additional suit was only another EUR30.
Thanks Gav for the advice, samples would be beneficial for sure, although from what your saying...it still doesn't guarantee the quality...they were supposedly at Intermot in München though?
This has certainly snow-balled and perhaps the best way is for me to bring in a set for myself as originally planned, see the actual products, and see how we go from there...remember this was planned for "expressions of interests" I'm still waiting for the catalogue myself.
I shall keep you up to date, no harm intended if anyone feels that way...TonyB and Gav I'll send you guys a PM tomorrow at a decent hour![]()
I have edited this post to take out some of the finer points in an effort to protect us all and ensure that we all get our leathers at cost, direct from the manufacturer. I realised last night that there was enough advice and information in these posts to enable an unscrupulous reader (wether they be an individual or an existing company) to set themselves up as the sole NZ distributor. If a company or individual were to do this before we all have the chance to purchase our leathers at cost, the chance for purchasing cheap leathers will be gone. Yes I am completely paranoid!
OK, my TradeNZ contact just called me. This is not going to be as hard or as risky as we thought. His advice is: DO NOT PAY FOR THE GOODS UNTIL YOUR ARE SATISFIED THEY ARE OF ‘MERCHANDISABLE QUALITY’.
The idea is to set it up with a reputable bank so that you have a contract with the supplier stating that they will not recieve payment until the goods have either, been inspected here by you, inspected here by an independant company, or inspected in Pakistan by an independant company. His advice is go fro broke and try to get the inpsection done here by you.
If you can pull this off, I am definitely going to be in. I would recommend that if they agree to let you do the inspection that you don’t do it all by yourself. If there are a reasonable number of well known KB’ers in Auckland involved you should be sweet. If you need any help, please let me know. I will PM you my contact details. I will be on holiday next week but should be contactable. Hopefully having it done this way will allay a lot of peoples fears.
As the bank will be involved, we can all maybe transfer the funds directly to an account that the bank controls, that way you don’t have to worry about dealing with the money and we all have more piece of mind. I’m sure the bank can suggest a way of handling this. Good luck- fuck I hope this all comes together!![]()

Most scams require the scammed one to think they are getting the old too good to be true deal.
However, I've seen some un freaking believable stuff coming out of these places at silly prices.
I'd suggest the old sample and bank approach as well. Tell the guy you are the representitive of a club with 1,500 members.... (we could get KB leathers) and you need a sample.
I'd buy a couple of sets...

Just be aware that setting up the contract with te bank and supplier costs around $150, so the suggestion of setting it up only applies to a bulk order.Originally Posted by Paul in NZ
surely if so many of us are going to be in on this, then the bank fees and SGF fees can be absorbed by us in the purchase of the leather (obviously with final numbers, an agreed figure can then be drawn up), so what ever import fees etc there are, it's not going to be a worry for you , Wildcat, and we still get a bargain (if that's what this works out to be). Plus, if you pull it off, I'm sure you'll get the odd beer thrown your way too!
Yeh, that was the idea. I'm good at typing lots of words and still failing to make myself clearOriginally Posted by bugjuice
