Gearbox issue

Hi all, my jap ride (cb750) has developed a gearbox issue, It wont always change up with the first push of the lever - that is the first click of the lever feels like it moves something but have to let the pressure of it and repeat before the gear selects.Any ideas?,Im keen to have a go at it myself if it could be an easy fix before i have to take it to a shop.

No easy fix by the sound of it, you will probably find its the gear selector... inside the casings.
