Problem now solved. Took the power direct from battery, and not fuse box, and problem disappeared. Strange but true!

The small amount of resistance in the wiring from the fuse panel to the battery allows quite large noise levels to be present from the alternator and ignition and other noise makers. Taking the wiring direct allows the battery to damp the noise well down, and the noise to be burned up as heat in the wiring. Usually.

But after taking a wire direct from the battery do you guys chuck a fuse in it?

I'm getting a detector (for car, but would use on bike too), and am looking at how I would wire it in.

I just got a Bel XR STI, got the hardwire kit.

Was about to wire it up, but if you guys just take power from the battery do you just unplug and plug in the radar when ever you want to use it?

Will this do any damage to the unit? I just spent a hefty amount of money on it so I don't want to wreck it...

I'm hard wiring mine to the battery and putting a relay into the lights.

If your wiring direct to the battery whats the point of having a relay for the headlights? (I thought they would have relays for them anyway?)

Also do you guys just use the suction cups to fit them to the windscreen?
I'm paranoid of it falling off and am thinking of making up a little bracket to hold it...

I had my V1 under the cowling held on with Velcro. It was very snug and secure. A bracket couldn't hurt for added reassurance.
I have a passport 8500 I am going to install soon on the new bike.

hell no... I use Techmount stands or Ram Solutions, wouldn't trust suction cups.

Bracket would work fine as well
