eek Electrical problem - Regulator. Identify the random parts?

I was out for a cruise tonight. And suddenly all my lights went out. I couldn't get over 4000 revs on any gear, I have a rev limiter somewhere on the bike to stop it reving over 4000rpm on 4th5th & 6th gear. Ideally i would like to have it removed. Dont know how / what it looks like though?
so anyhow i had to crawl back home......

I opened the seat to expose electrics and it stunk! i replace the 15 fuse with the spare the lights went on for a sec and then it blew again.
Any idea what the smell was? the fuse? the battery looks fine gave a quick look at the wiring and looked ok couldnt get to all of it though.
I don't have a manual so don't really know what to do about testing wiring/ getting a new part.

I got the day off tomorrow and will try to fix it any help would b awesome.
I could take photos of diff parts etc. if it helps

ok so today i unhooked all leads, put in new 15 fuse. and one by one turned on and off to check to see if fuse would blow. Nothing happend but there is still one plug to put in. I am going to try plugging it in and then see if i blows now.

I think that it is the regulator? See photo. It seems there is some oily stuff coming out of it. Wiped a bit off and it thick and smells chemically. I think that i will have to take the tank off to get it off - have no idea how to do that while its got oil n petrol in it. Once its off im not sure how to test it either....

Anyone know if you can just buy a universal regulator part???

Other photo includes a Rev Booster which came with the bike I have no idea where I would connect it. Any ideas?

Also is a photo of some box above the rear wheel I don't know what it does??

fuse blew for regulator. So off it had to come see photos

just hovered tank above frame. and took it off oily chemical stuff was leaking out the back of the regulator thing see photos.

Is it ok to ride without a regulator. Just means that battery won't charge right? or is it going to damage the charging coils in the engine or something?

Where do I get a new one? Supercheapauto? will this one on trademe work even though it has an extra pin? mine only shows three pins.

Do not ride your bike without a reg/rec. Not good for your charge coils as you mentioned.
Don't know if that trade me one will work without knowing what is input/output earth etc. Talk to your local shops re aftermarket single phase regs.
Good on you for having a look for the fault

Well done! No don't ride it without a regulator.

That one on trademe should work I think. You will have to look carefully at the wiring diagram that comes with it, and then follow your own wires, and you will see where everything goes. I think you should be ok making it work, considering your progress so far.

Ok I will probably get it from trademe and try to figure it out. Am just waiting to hear back from a few places.

If I rode home after the initial incident do you think that would have wrecked the charge coils? the bike was on for no more than 5mins with the broken regulator. Hope I don't need any other new parts....

well I heard on suzuki scooters that there is a wire to the speedo that cuts out the ignition over a certain speed and to overide it you can disconnect the speedo cable or cut that certain wire. My honda clone 48cc 4 stroke had a 4 wire CDI that ran off the rectifier I put on a later 5 wire CDI that runs without a rectifier. I do have 2 suzuki scooters but brand new rectifiers are only $10 on trade me
