$600 may find you a second hand rebuild able shock.
I've been down this "saving money" path with rear shocks before
It doesn't work. Very quickly, you wish you had spent that extra money for something that actually does a good job.
What value do you put on your own, and pillions safety?
Some people spend a couple of thousand on exhaust systems, a thousand on a good helmet, a thousand on leathers, and 600+ on tyres, but barely give suspension a nod. Crazy if you ask me.
+1 on that
I tried to take the cheap way out with my last bike and within a week the shock was leaking oil and had lost all its damping. I got it rebuilt and within another week I was back to exactly where I started. After this I bought a nitron shock which is a well known make in the UK and never had a problem with it so Id say have a look into one of them

Thanks for your support
Anyone know the name of guy on North shore who reseals Ohlins. My right rear is leaking. Mechanic who looked at it didn't inspire me with confidence.
Many thanks

Full Rebuild of your Standard shock with " Race Tech" gear in it, ( I won at Wanganui roads using the gear in my forks and it is shit hot!) for approx $635-00
If New spring reqd to suit your weight to make the package the best, the spring would cost you approx $260-00 on top of the shock re build price. Please PM your weight to clarify if spring change would be reccomended.
PS Other readers, the price will be slightly different per brand of shock due to the work required to dissasemble and rebuild.

Thanks shaun, ill get in contact when I get back from holidays.
While we're on the topic of rear shocks, I did my front fork seals recently, but haven't even LOOKED at the rear shock. What should I be looking for from a regular maintenance point of view?
I figure car drivers must be Apes. All they do is sit in cages all day & grunt
