does anyone have thoughts on best tyre combo for GSXR 1000 K1. I have just brought this, (fark theyre a bit quick arnt they) and need a new rear. Am worried about chewing middles out to quickly. Was wondering about Diablo Rosso, and also thoughts on dual compounds. Also thoughts on 190/55/17 versus standard 190/50/17 which is production size. Any imput appreciated, (and do you have to stop for the cops?)

choose you favourite brand, be it michelin, pirelli, bridgestone, pick one of there sport tires and go from there

190/55 is better than a 190/50 but alot of styles in sports rubber to not come in it, or if they do at a very large extra cost.

All brands are find for 90% of all riders on the road.

You could try some Avon Storms, if you want some good grip, excellent mileage, and don't mind a sport-touring tyre rather than straight sports tyre.

From what I understand having just put a new Pirelli on my bike the Rossi is more of a track compound and will chew out the centres fast, the Diablo is similar but will last a bit longer and the Strada is the way to go for touring, my Duke had Diablo's on it from factory and 10,000Km saw the end of the rear, the fronts fine, I have gone fro a Strada this time and will observe its behaviour over the next we while, its only partly scrubbed in yet but for my riding so far seems fine, going to put about 2000K on it over the next week so I can tell you more then about how I like it.

I've just put the Diablo Rosso on my bike a few hundred kilometers ago due to lack of option at that time.

Coming from Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa Pro (which was standard on my bike, and the most awesome tyres I've ever used), the Rosso felt nervous, slow-steering and far below the predecessor above.

However, compared to Bridgestone BT015, it is on par if not a slight improvement on the feel, especially on massive lean angle.

For track, I haven't done the test on Rosso but I imagine it would give up quite quickly on a brisk medium-fast pace. If Supercorsa started to give up on my on average at around 2 laps before session ends, Rosso would most likely give up and become mushy at about 7 laps into the session

If you are keen on performance, I'd suggest you try Corsa III, which the brochure says should be between Supercorsa Pro and Rosso.

Wow, thanks for the fast responses. Corsa, currently its dressed in straight Diablos, and the centre of the rear is gone, while the edges are great. This may be previous owners riding style, but your going to get this with higher horse power i spose. I also find that i have scrubbed the outside edges of the rear within 3-4mm of the edge (and i am not confident on this bike yet, less than 2 hours riding time) yet the front tyre is approx 15mm from both edges? Is this tyre combo? Model of bike? I would be looking for maybe a sports/tourer, I will corner it fairly hard (well, I used to on my 750 slingy), and of course nail it on the straights when the cops say OI!! Unfortuately, most of the time bike will be upright, rather than trying to scratch my knee, as I will be using it mainly to get to work (140k return) and road is unfortunately very straight (and i feel it will be somewhat shorter than in my 4 wheel drive

How long roughly to warm tyres properly? Had my Diablo front give me a warning yesterday when cornering, but granted, I had only done about 5km (at about 130) prior to this.

Might be worth trying BT-016's. They have a hard centre compound on the rear to stop them squaring off, then medium shoulders for putting the power down, then soft edges for cornering.

I've done 2000km on mine with about half that commuting and they're wearing quite evenly so far. I am on a 600 tho.
