I'l put another vote in for Maungaraki, good schools available and just a short trip to town.

The city is cleaner....way cleaner than Auckland and it doesn't smell like Auckland does. Been down a couple of times this year and each time I was pretty impressed with the whole Wellington thing to be honest.
The people down there are just amazing....well, ok, not all of them, but the ones that I/we have met are...

I have looked up a few colleges on the net.
    Thanks for all the Ideas.
Might use Mana removals I remember them going past in Porirua. Might chuck the bike in the back as well and drive the family down in the cage.

We used Mana 20 years ago (fuck) to move down from Auckland. They were very good back then. Not much of a referral really, is it?

If the house doesn't sell, and I don't top myself or go mad(er than now), it'll be rented...

(But frankly a single-width (though longish) garge on top of a steep driveway doesn't make for a good car+bike household.)

    Cheers,

Upper Slut is the best. The 'Takas are only a short trip up the road. What more could you want?
While you sit there liking things just cos' everyone else does, I'll be standing up here keeping it real.

If I move back to Wellington it'll certainly be back in the Hutt. Maungaraki or Korokoro would be my pick, followed by the other Wetern Hill suburbs, then Alicetown and Petone. Parts of Upper Hutt are good,The Taka's on your doorstep would cancel out most negatives, like the frosts. As it's been said though, it's full of Bogans.

Naenae College is like the UN these days, with an over-representation from the African nations. Hutt High was starting to get a reputation for bullying and other anti-social behaviours early in the year if I remember right.

Unless something has changed drastically in the last few years, the neighbourhood slogan for Naenae was "Surf Naenae - Ride the crime wave"

Over the years I lived in welly, I lived in Kowhai Park, Cashmere, Ngauranga, Taita, Epuni & Wallaceville, of which I'd avoid all but the first two.

Places I can think of to avoid off the top of my head:
Anything north of Tawa except for Whitby
    Wainuiomata
The vast majority of the flat areas of the Hutt Valley
    Aro Valley
    Newtown
    Berhampore
    Rongotai
    Strathmore
    .

Just to help you make up your mind, I went on a wee tour around the back blocks of Normandale, Belmont, and Maungaraki to dry the bike after I cleaned it yesterday.

Johnsonville area is quite handy. It gives you easy access to Wellington, the Hutt, and north to Porirua. But there are quite a few bikers there already so you might want to move to somewhere a bit quieter.
