Nolans 103 driving me crazy can you help?

We just invested over $2K in Nolan 103 with the blue tooth intercom system. We thought it would be nice to be able to talk to each other while riding and as we both listen to music when we ride to have this all sorted in one easy way.

But in the three times we have taken them out we have had no end of problems - the worst of which is the noise. It sounds like you are in a cage with the window down! So loud that after the hour on the bike today i had ringing in my ears.

We took the helmets back to the shop as there was a problem with one of the units but they have said that they are both ok now (they took both helmets and replaced the units) and yes the intercom system does work (if you have the volume right up cause once you hit 100+ you can bearly hear).

The really strange thing is that i can hear his music - i haven't tried playing mine at the same time. I was told that when you talk the music fades but nope.

Also we hooked our phones up and while it worked at home when we were on the bikes it didn't seem to at all.

So all in all we are very unhappy. The worst thing is the wind noise, i knew going to a flip face helmet would increase it a bit but this is rediculas.

Does anyone have an ideas on the issues above? We want it to work but at the moment are extreamely disappointed.

For serious bike to bike communication with ease of use and reliability I always recommend the blue ant intercom kit, cheaper than the nolan bluetooth and much better bike to bike. The nolan blue tooth I have found is excellent in multi tasking for helmet comms i.e phone plus rider pillion inter come plus music etc. It is odd that you have that problem, I do recommend talking to the place from which you bought it again. Get them to test it.

Grub had noise issues and wore a scarf to conteract them. I have few noise issues with mine.

I have to had the volume up high but I am losing my hearing ... that could be why there are fewer noise issues.

I use with my phone .. but the phone settings also have to be right ... e.g. abe to voice dial .. and also better on auto answer when using bluetooth and stuff like that.

We can catch up and look at it if you like.

I have a Blueant Bluetooth unit, and had it attached to my Shark helmet (before writing off the helmet!) I had only got the one unit for using with my GPS.
I found that because my helmet was noisy, .... and I wear earplugs, even with the unit put on it's LOUD setting, I couldn't hear my GPS voice instructions when traveling. I tried putting the headset speaker in different positions to get it as close to my ears as possible in the helmet, but it did little good.

However, I have solved the problem! Apart from a regular set of Plugz 4 Lugz earplugs, I already had a set of Plugz 4 Lugz earplugs with built in headphones. (Maybe you could just use good quality sound isolating earbuds ...)
I got a local technician/boffin to put a plug into the Blue Ant wiring so I could plug my earplug/earbuds into it. That defeated the speaker in the helmet (as I didn't then need it). I put my earplugs in, tuck the cable out of the way (down the front of my jacket), chuck the helmet on .... and presto! I have bluetooth connection with my GPS, phone, mp3 player (built into the GPS) , and I can hear perfectly well!
I am not sure if it would work with the Nolan ?? It maybe a different setup, but that works great for me for the Blueant as far as volume level and eliminating outside noise. All you are doing is bypassing the speaker(s) in the helmet (or headset - in case of the Blueant), and using either purpose built "Plugs 4 Lugs" earplugs, or something else.
But .. as you say, you've spent a heap on what you could reasonably expect to provide you with a great setup! This is just a suggestion if you fail to get the issue resolved ordinarily ..... it will certainly work .... I think .....

I find my nolan 102's aceptable re wind noise,although i ride an rt1150 with a great screen/fairing.
as for the intercoms,,,not best pleased with reliability.replacing with a full Baer system shortly.

I've been watching with interest the development of bluetoth intercom systems, and it seems there is still not a really good, reliable system available.
