    Speeding Ticket Revenue

Heard on the radio earlier that the latest speeding ticket figures for the year past are 1 million tickets, raking in 60 Million dollars... Thats alot of cash. I wonder what would happen if EVERYONE in NZ started driving/riding completely legally, I bet they've become rather acustomed to that income.

Btw, I'm not having a go - Just posting what I heard.

If we all (I mean EVERYONE) refused to pay speeding fines unless we were doing over 120kph I wonder if the bastards would finally wake up and and increase the legal limit. I make no bones about it, I'm an Act voter because if I paid less tax I'd happily top the system up with the odd speeding fine because I still choose to go faster than the limit PROVIDED IT IS SAFE TO DO SO (considering ALL the factors).
Reality is an illusion encouraged by consensus.

What would interest me is knowing what proportion of the revenue was generated by speeding bikers, or KB'ers for that matter.

What would be more constructive is if every driver in New Zealand deliberately set out to get ticketted and then refused to pay the fine...

But in all seriousness, this "Revenue" debate is getting a little tiresome.

The law's the law. We know the rules.

You break the law (regardless if it's a good one or not) and get caught, you get ticketed. End of fucking story.

Let's please find a new topic other than the boo hoo, I got a ticket, woe is me shit we're all spouting now.

It's the same fucken ground covered every thread and I've had a gutsfull.

Dont like tickets? Don't speed. Simple.

(this aint a vent in your direction Stoney, just having a bitch about the bitchers)

1 million tickets and only $60million booked?? I don't know about the rest of you but the smallest fine I've ever had was $150 and I know they go well above that (but I couldn't possibly comment). Surely the absolute smallest amount is only $60, not the average.

Which raises the question, are they not reporting the real profit??

Ouch, thats heavy. I suppose if we all did refuse to pay tickets, I wonder what prices would rise so that the goverment could still afford their flash cages and stupid things

yes WT, I don't want to repeat the same ole same ole... but perhaps this story is equally pertinent today when considering the revenue obtained from traffic infringements - since when infringing traffic regulations you're more than likely using a road and/or vehicle at the same time... http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3182820a10,00.html

dare i repeat the same old shite by suggesting that it was diverted from the general account to more targeted use?

That may be the "value" of tickets given but I wonder how much was actually raked in. I know that i work with more than one person with over 10k worth of fines, will they be writtten off as bad debts eventually and so that 60mill is not what it seems?
