    Back protectors?

Looking at getting a back protector, but dont know what to get. Are there any brands to stay away from, and these cheap ones on trademe (see below) are they worth it? I basically dont want to pay $200 for a back protector if I can get one thats gona do the job for $50. Any advice appreciated...

I've got a 7-plate Teknic for sale at $60. Of course, it's fantastic, awesome, and all that there.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Meant to say aswell that I used a knox contour backprotector for a few trackdays but it was only borrowed so cant really give a long term review.
I found it very comfortable once I got used to wearing it, it only took me about 1 session before I didnt even know I was wearing it. So if I was to buy one in the morning this is what Id go for but think Id also get a chest protector aswell because theres lots of important stuff to protect there too which alot of people seem to overlook

There are Back Protectors and Back Protectors

We stock the worlds leading brand KNOX which is CE certified to level 2 (the highest) I also have $90 ones which like the rest in this bracket have no certification at all.
If you put a Non CE one on then a CE KNOX one on the difference is very noticable from fit comfort and obvious quality.

KNOX incidently is the brand most high level racers use thats GP and WSB, thats not a spin, KNOX sponsor team RIZZLA for example.

I wear a KNOX AEGIS and a KNOX chest protector and the kit is definately worthy of the investment from a safety point as well as a comfort point.

Yes I understand that mate, KNOX is the best simple as that, many try to have one as good but if you ever get to try on a KNOX its a completely different level of quality and safety

Ok I get the point, ur sounding like a salesman now. Unfortunately being a student I do have to put a price on my life (even if it isn't as much as I'd like it to be). But thanks for the advice anyway.

Is that padding in the back of leathers (like in my teknic 2 piece) good enough or are back protectors still needed? If not, why even have padding on the back?

Go try on a back protector and you'll see the difference, it's alot stiffer.

The one shown on that link is made by Prexport (legit Italian business) and is CE (quality certified) but it is only a 3 shield protector. The same Trademe vendor has a 4 shield protector - check "other listings". I have the Prexport 7 shield protector and am happy with it. Ring Supacross Cycles in Hamilton (google the number) and see if they have a protector larger than 3 or 4 shield - I did this and they directed me to their Chch branch where the 7 shield was.

Most road bikers do not wear extra back or knee protection. I do, except for some short trips in town. When another rider asks me if the extra protection is worthwhile, I try to pick up a rock or hammer and bang it against my knee, then say to them "OK, your turn!"

Usually you get what you pay for, but not always. Some gear is simply overpriced. Try to get a CE certification, but even if its cheap and uncertified you will be better off than without the extra protection.

You can get better knee protection then the rock solid stuff you get in most two or one piece leathers? I just dropped strait onto my knees onto a solid marble path wearing them and I barely fealt it. And I have repetitive knee injuries so I would know if it hurt
