On Deano's recommendation (Thanks Deano! :niceone) I contacted a Muay Thai kickboxing gym here in Welly and was put on the intake waiting list. Was contacted last week that we could now start coming so to come in and try it out, first lesson free, see how you go.
So on Tuesday evening Kendog, Number One and I rocked on up to the gym and were soon chucked in to doing squats, sit-ups, press-ups and a number of other exercises and stretches I haven't bothered with in quite some time!!
Then off we went to learn how to stand and walk Muay Thai style (Owwww, feel the BURN in the calf muscles!)
Then we were split into smaller groups and taught how to throw left and right punches and practiced on each other (with sparring pad things.... although there was one girl there that was just about knocking us over, took good mental note of her face so not to ever talk back to her on the street!!) and then into some kicks. Some more squats, press-ups and push-ups, cool down stretches and that was our hour done!! I was fucked!!! But felt great and had a ball doing it!!
So we're going back for more tonight even though my body is still aching, especially the front of my thighs (can hardly lower myself on to the loo, owwww!!). We're going to sign up for 9 months and see where that takes us. I figure that it's going to take some time to learn all the things we have to learn, so won't be getting bored, and by the time the boredom starts to set in hopefully the results will be motivation enough to stick with it.![]()
