whats going on with HJC helmets

After seeing the deals being offered here, wondered into my local bikeshop in Hamilhole. Asked "is there any special on the HJC's"... guy just smiled and asked "what ya after"

I wanted a CL14 Tribe XL, to which he replied "I'll do one for $200"

    wtf, thats like half rrp

I know they arnt high end helmets, but $200?!

Anyone know why they're suddenly so cheap?

I was recently told that helmets were no longer subject to import dutys?
"If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough power."

Maybe Darbi accessories special off the last of the Old seasons helmets to the bike shops. they then pass the savings on to you.

It cost the same as if I was to buy it of the shelf here.... but there were no size M in NZ.
In Oz they are $100 cheaper, but add on shiping and exchange then it puts it back at the NZ price.

    http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=8393 <----- to see the FG14

    its so true.

Im sure there is a scientifically provable link between the amount of time you spend cleaning your visor, and the size and juicyness of the bug that will hit the visor in the first 30s of riding.

Its amazing wat they can match when they try hard enough, makes you wonder why pay rrp for anything???? Are they constantly ripping us off???

The HJC special is due to a bulk buy of US spec helmets by the distributors. The NZ models are still at the old price. The differences are minor, US models are fractionally heavier, there's no chin curtain and they use 'D' ring fastening.
The reduction in duty is a result of FFM no longer manufacturing in NZ. If Mr Lips dealer sold an HJC Smoke at the new price after paying the old cost, they would make nothing on it.
