Tobin jury retires to consider verdicts

The jury for the Gerry Tobin murder trial has retired to consider their verdicts.

Prior to its retirement, Mr Justice Treacy said the jury should not feel under any pressure of time in conducting its deliberations, telling the jurors "It's a matter for you how you go about your work and a matter for you as to how long you take to do that.
"You must take all such time as is necessary for you to be true to your oaths to return true verdicts according to the evidence."

Seven men sentenced for Tobin murder

All seven Outlaws gang members accused of murdering Gerry Tobin have been convicted.

Mr Justice Treacy told the defendants "A totally innocent man was executed with a firearm in broad daylight on a busy motorway for no reason other than that he belonged to a different motorcycle club than yours."

Sean Creighton and Simon Turner actually fired the shots, but all of the defendants played a part in what Justice Treacy called a "cold-blooded, premeditated, almost military plan".

    Sentencing as follows:

Creighton will serve a minimum of 28 years and six months after pleading guilty to murder and firearms offences.

Simon Turner was given a minimum term of 30 years for murder and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Malcolm Bull will serve 25 years and

Dean Taylor will serve 30 years.

Karl Garside, 45, Dane Garside, 42, and Ian Cameron, 46, all of Coventry, were also found guilty of murdering Mr Tobin.

Karl Garside was given a minimum term of 26 years

Dane Garside was given a minimum term of 27 years

Ian Cameron must serve at least 25 years in jail.
