MNZ membership costs?

As you all know I'm a newbie to the race circuit, but not a newbie to life in general.

I now have in my possession a flash new racing licence plus a log book. All this for just $125.

That I was not required to provide any personal data beyond my name, age, and club affiliation, to get this licence, I've been wondering what I paid for.

The licence card would cost about $5. The log-book about the same. So there's $10. What did the other $115 go towards?

Moreover, seeing as how any club can provide day-licences, why is there an overarching body?

I suppose this 'body' coordinates something. But what? And why does it cost me $115 for such coordination?

When I pay Motott, Kiwi Track, AMCC (Puke) PMCC, et al, I get a recognisable value.

But I don't see what I get from MNZ other than the 'pleasure' of shoring up another layer of bureaucracy.

I'd appreciate some enlightenment on this issue.
