    Driving time - Takaka to Westport

    Well my south island trip on a bike at Xmas is now a cruise in a car with a gorgeous lady!!

    Just trying to sort out driving times sitting on a comfortable holiday speed, so 110km max on straights. How long would it take to drive from;
    Takaka to Westport
    Westport to Picton

    Thanks for your help.

    Mike

    A darn nice trip - Its very nice up the top of the South Island - unfortunately you will be missing the bike for most of it

    Dose up in multi vitamin B a couple of weeks before hand for the sand fly bites.

    use the directions tool in google maps - I use it for all long trip planning.

    285 km – about 3 hours 50 mins Takaka to Westport

    286 km – about 3 hours 42 mins Westport to Picton

    why worry about how long its gota take... unless you miss the ferry on way back...however the roads will be slow and full of camper vans,so best add plenty of time each way...you need too. as there's plenty to see and pull over for photo shot's...

    Have fun, just got back from Takaka to Picton last Wed/Thursday after doing the BMC, takes about 3hrs fm Takaka to Picton in the pouring rain, several yrs ago managed it in 2hrs, looking back now, that was rather dumb On the Monday after the one hell of a weekend we rode from Invers to Muchison (stayed the night,awesome deal @ the Commercial Hotel ?), then into Nelson (mate need a new chain) so missed the nice rode out to Mot, it rainned from Haast to Greymouth bloody neat ride all the same

    Should be able to do 100km in 60m if doing the speed limit of 100

    if you ADVERAGE the speed limit of 100km. which means you are definitely going to be speeding somewhat.

    Mike, you're gonna regret doing this road in the cage.....it's a road made for bikes, so long as it ain't raining. Which it doesn't in Nelson (much).
    Traffic flows well once you're away from Golden bay beaches, and Takaka Hill. I'd allow 4hr 30 in the car, allowing for a coffee stop (Murchison), mainly because a lot of the road is quite winding and slow (in a car)
    Have fun.
