Dismantling a mirror

Mine has something rattly and heavy banging about in it (a big nut or something) and the bloody thing seems to be completely sealed except a little drain hole in the bottom.

Anyone here know how to dismantle a mirror...

except a little drain hole in the bottom.

try filling the whole thing up with expanding foam, or sellys all clear - it'll stop the rattle

I used a road marker at 180k's to dissasemble my last one......
The rattle will be a stick-on wheel weight that they stick to the back of the glass to kill vibration.The expanding foam trick sounds like the go.

dismantle a mirror?? I know how to do that! just loosen the attachement nut and go for a thrash, comes apart REAL quick (dammit). Found that one out on Saturday

A couple of bikes I've owned appeared to have a similar problem, in that there was no obvious way to dismantle the mirror, including my BiffBird.

On all occasions its turned out that you need to completely remove the mirror from the bike, including the extender arm. There were/are nuts on the extender arm which locked the mirror firmly in place. Once Id removed the whole thing from the bike, a bid of wiggling released the mirrors. On the Bird when I release the whole mirror unit there's another but hidden in the extender arm housing that fixes the mirror itself to the mirror housing.

Now these bikes have either been Yams or Kwakas, but ya never know until you try I guess.

ok bein serious for a mo.ivew deralt with shit loads of fucked mirrors --the rattle is one of two things. --Either its the nut holding the mirror in place or its the anti vibe weight rattling around. If its the anti vibe weight then I agree re just drill the drain hole a touch bigge-lay the mirror face down and spray the foam into the back of the mirror.thattll solve the problem.
If its the locknut you can sort it but its heaps harder.
ya need to cut slices into the mirror souround (sp) on the flat side and peel back the plastic and drop the glass out--tighten up the nut -ease the glass back in then use 2 pot epoxy to reglue the cuts in the mount

Ta... an an indication the mirror itself is sitting as straight and tight as ever... just the damned rattle, so I suspect it's the anti vibe weight...

I'll have a play with some foam then (it's not going to corrode the silver coating off the glass is it?
