Thats not necessarily anything to do with the "ninja" than with the way he rode it. You have to rev the shit out of 4 stroke 250's before dropping the clutch to feel any kind of "get up and go"....... maybe your mate on the bandit just new how to get the most out of his engine.

depends what you are looking for. the 250r can get along at a nice pace when asked to. It is a parallel twin so not a lots o HP bike for sure but its also not a 20 yr old bike that has had the shit rung out of it. Resale value on the 250r is very good.

Nearly all men can stand adversity and hard time, but if you want to test a mans true character, give him power....

It's a sexy bike, but it's no racer, it's a commuter bike really.
The parallel twins really have nothing on an inline 4 in terms of performance.
They make up for it with cheaper purchase price, cheaper maintenance and less petrol though.
Look how small the engine of the Ninja 250 is compared to the bandit...

Handling on the other hand the Ninja would come on top, lighter bike too.

I'll be getting an '09 one once I have the cash.
(Keeping the '88 for people to learn on and other things )

Also, was the bike properly broken in?

could have called that race for the bandit before it even started....
The earlier model 250 sport's were made for performance over economy...Something that isn't so easily done now.
Not that i have anything over the new ninja 250's...there nice, perfect for a learner

Cant agree more Mint for a learner, all I'm saying is if ya buying the Ninja for speed with-out really researching it first and knowin what to expect then if you hand over hard earnt cash and expect to have your eyes sucked into your sockets, It aint gonna happen, much anyway.

    You don't buy a 250 for performance.
So are you still considering buying one?

in 4 250 vs parallel twin 250. In four will hit a higher top end. The ninja is the better learner bike though. Not rev heavy, nice amount of torque, forgiving enough, looks the biz and is built well with good support. Which would I choose if i was a learner, the ninja. Which would I choose in the twisties...the ninja.

Always this obsession with straight line speed.

Pretty sure the ZXR would nail the 250r in the twisties too!

But as people have already said, it's all about age these days in terms of choosing between the new low-powered 250s and the old screamers.
