My XR600 had 120/90 18's (Michelin AC10's) which equates to 4.60 I think. That seems to be a good size for it - fits the rims fine and doesn't rub but still nice and fat.

Usually, yes, but the AC10 120/90 is an unusual size, actually a low-profile 120/100 ie a big mo-fo tyre, roughly a 5.10. It is not a skinny 120/90 equivalent to the 100/100 or 4.00.

    Hope that makes sense!
    Cheers,
    Colin

I thought it was equivalent to a 5.10 but I just did a quick metric to imperial measurement and it comes out at 4.60, but it certainly looks wide like a 5.10 so that explains it I guess.

Thanks mate, was going to call you. It was missing heaps on my ride this arvo....first I thought fuel, naa, plenty there...I got home and saw that the choke was in the first position...Doh! Once I put that back, the second speed run was sweet!
The manual is awesome, but it don't tell you how to take the saddle off....Is there a secret Honda handshake for this?

You didn't hide my numberplate! Now they all know!

Yeah it's one of those Honda things - there are some bolts under the rear guard that remove the seat plus part of the airbox shroud/ lower guard. There are some bolts that take off the subframe and it's not them (I used to take them off first thinking it is them then have to take the others out too) but just keep on taking out bolts you'll get it . Glad you're having fun...

    Exel Rims...

Does anyone out there know if rims off a RMZ will fit onto a XR600?
The hubs have four holes for the disc and six for the sprocket, wouls the axle size be the same seeing it is a Japper too?
    Does anyone out there know?
    Thanks.

XR axle size is 15mm from memory and RMZ is 22mm I believe.

Good site here for info www.thumpertalk.com

And don't forget ballards for info and bits also.

Check the parts fiche for each year model, see what the wheel bearing sizes are. Not only will this tell you the axle size, but if they are close you may e able to easily change them to suit.

eg when I used '91 DR350 wheels on my '01 DR-Z250, the rear was identical but the front had 15mm axle vs 17 on the later bike. A change of wheel bearings sorted that out. The number of brake disc bolts was different but didn't matter, as the dimensions of the disc were the same.

You have to watch the centring of the wheel; swaps like these often involve machining up spacers to suit.
    Cheers,
    Colin
