GPS - Colorado 300 stability advice wanted

Hi folks, I'm hoping you can offer some advice or suggestions before I take my Colorado 300 back to it's point of purchase for warranty discussions.

I'm running a Colorado 300 with the free project street maps along with the standard basemap and speed camera POI file. It's mostly mounted on my bike in a Colorado RAM cradle with associated RAM mountings although it gets used in the car also. It has the latest software and firmware installed as of ~2 weeks ago, before this the firmware was 2 minor versions behind but updating that has made no difference.

The unit keeps switching off randomly, no power warnings or anything. It's normally running off the mini USB connector cigarette lighter adaptor so it has constant power, but also has freshly charged 2500Mah Energiser rechargable batteries installed.

Any ideas why it might be doing this?
Last weekend while using it on my bike it shut off 5 times in one day (350km) 2 of those occasions were only minutes apart. During the week it shut off in the car after 20 minutes and during last nights ride it shut down and when I restarted it stuck on the 'Do you want to go to USB storage mode' screen for about 40 minutes, I couldn't select either Yes or No and it wouldn't switch off, though the toggle would cycle through the options.

Any ideas? or is it stuffed. It's done this since I bought it about 2 months ago. I purchased it from a local genuine Garmin dealer.

Does it only happen when the GPS moving around?

If so could be a bad power/battery connection inside the unit somewhere. I recall another Garmin model had a similar issue with a fix that involved soldering a connection inside.

Send it back under warranty and get it replaced.
