Given that Puke, on 13th Dec, was the second-only actual race-day I've attended (as a competitor) the pleasant curiosity I noticed may well be quite normal...at least at Puke.
Anyway. Having survived, unscathed, through the umpty-ump laps of a race I did the hands-free glide into Jenian, then just pootled around the rest of the track to the pit entrance.
At each corner where flag-marshals stood I noticed each group clapped as I went by. Given that neither I nor bike look even remotely like one of the hot combinations I concluded they were not mistakenly clapping my performance. Furthermore, I glanced around and saw there was no other finishing bike anywhere near me.
So why where they clapping?
Was it their way of expressing, "Way to go! Another survivor!"?...or..."Hey man! Thanks for not crashing into us!"?
Whatever, it was a pleasant curiosity to see various groups of flag-marshals clap at the passing of an easily forgettable competitor....Me.
I felt quite chuffed.
