If there is something I hate, its snobbery. and boy have I just had a taste of it...
Sorry guys n gals, gotta have a rant about this one cos I’m still fuming.
Just back from New World in Botany, needed some coke to go with the JD for later so thought I would bike up there cos its not too bad a day.
Grab the coke and head for the ’12 items or less’ queue, stopping to let a 30 something pregnant lady go in front of me. She had a basket, I only have coke.
Anyway, she tosses the lid then me a ‘Down the nose’ look and doesn’t acknowledge my small act of chivalry (whatever) and then calls her mate over with a loud “coo eee, I’m over here Lucinda".
Her mate pushes past me and they start talking. Note that this is only an approximate gist of the conversation but the words in capitals are exactly what was said.
‘So when are you due?”
“Oh, about 3 weeks. PATRICE, MY BIRTHING CONSULTANT” says it’s all looking good”
“Are you having bubs in Auckland Hospital?”
“OH FOR GOODNESS SAKE NO. PATRICE, MY BIRTHING CONSULTANT has booked me into the (poncy sounding name) ECO BIRTHING RETREAT IN PARNELL.”
A bit more convo, then she says it….
“….and there is no way I would ever consider giving birth ay Auckland Hospital, I MEAN, THE NURSES THERE HANDLE ALL DIFFERENT KINDS OF CHILDREN AND THERE IS NO WAY I WILL ALLOW MYSELF TO BE VIOLATED LIKE THAT.”
Faaccccckkkk, can you believe this woman would say that….my boy was born in Auckland under very difficult circumstances and the doctors, nurses, midwives etc were just brilliant. And to think this over privileged yuppie has that kind of attitude towards people, it don’t give the kid much of a chance.
I’m still fuming and had to get this off my chest, sorry guys n gals, but people like that are out there....![]()
