    The Album of 2008

As the year comes to the end there will be many who will give their opinion re who made 2008's best music album.

The radiostations will all give their opinions.
    The music magazines
    And so on.

Rolling Stone Magazine is one of the most respected ones and always produces a list.

    My look at it is:

2008 gave us some brilliant albums. Some new bands and some old ones hit the spot too.

For me there was Nightwish and "Dark Passion Play" (I have a weak spot for their music), Mudvayne and "The New Game" (A late entry, but a top 10 never the less), Serj Tankian "Elect The Dead" (I am sure it came out in 2008, if not, then still needs a mentioning) and Metallica with "Death Magnetic" (just because they got their sheit together and gave the punters what they wanted).

But IMHO the top 3 in 2008 are:

3'rd spot goes to Shinedown with "The Sound Of Madness". A Hard Rock album with a Texas taste. Melodies that stick and lyrics that trigger.

2'nd place I give to Sixx:AM for "Heroin Diaries". Strong music, gripping tales of despair and in the end salvation. A mans life on a CD, warts and all. You can not be more open and honest then that. I am soo looking forward to the film that Nikki Sixx is promising based on his book and this album that he calls "The soundtrack to the book that will become the movie".

And the No. 1 album in 2008 I will surprisingly (yep, this really blows me away too) give to Guns N' Roses for "Chinese Democracy". What a surprise! After what? 15 years in the making the album had heaps to measure up to. And it does so on all accounts. Axels voice still has it, the songs are all winners in their own right, not one is a filler. Lyrics are strong. You just have to admire what he has achieved. It was worth the waiting. And today I heard that he is trying to get the original band together. I suppose he has proven to everyone that good things take time.

There my take on it. And I expect my 3 to be on many of the "official" lists. Because they are good!

But this is just my opinion. I am sure you have yours.

May the bridges I burn light the way.

2008 was thoroughly unmemorable, except for Tiki Taane's album.

Chinese Democracy is rubbish. Thank goodness for "right of return" clauses on receipts.

Best album I bought this year was a Dave Brubeck concert I was actually at in '98, in London.

Nothing in the last 5 years has bashed me in the face like Johnny Cash's cover of NiN's Hurt.

How much of that is due to the imagery of the film clip rather than the toon?

I heard it before I saw it.

I can't imagine that Trent Reznor ever imagined he wrote The Man in Black's self-eulogy.

Death Magnetic and Paul Weller's 22 Dreams were good for me.

Didnt go too much a bundle in Black Ice, havnt heard GNR's album just yet.

Rediscovered a few old albums this year as well. Wild Wood, Pet Sounds, Sgt Pepper, a heap of Dylan and Revolver all got resurrected.

Given Death Magnetic a few more spins in the last few weeks, I'd say I got my 20 bucks worth from it so not a total loss, Even if the lyrics and vocals are cringe worthy.

Black Ice, Great modern AC/DC album, nothing more, nothing less.

My pick would have to Testament-The Formation of Damnation

I take it that all music in 2008 resembles a scene from WWF and hitting people with fold up chairs.

Do you guys listen to anyone who isn't angry ?

Meh, Metalheads are usually slightly more outspoken about their tastes.

But find me the WWF in the Baroness clip and i'll give you a cookie.

Nice. Mine will be more specialer than that once Robert Taylor gets ahold of it.

Write up soon I hope. You find it comfy? As I recall, you were only a smidgen taller than myself.
