Dismantling front forks?

Hey guys, i need my fork seals replaced (pre xmas would be sweet) danger is closed till the 5th but spectrum can (fingers crossed) help me out.

My question is this, with lots of tools but limited knowledge am I best to take the forks off myself (which will save me money) or should I leave it to the experts, is it as simple as taking the wheel off, loosening the triple clamps and sliding the tubes out, and is installation once the seals are replaced easy enough.. cher cher.

Removing the forks is pretty simple, wheel, brakes, and loosen triples as you mentioned then slid them out - spray a bit of lube on before sliding to aid this. Take a note of the position of the fork relative to the top tree - is it level or raised, if raised measure by how much so you may get it the same when you put them back.

You may want to loosen off that top cap a fraction before unclamping them so it is easier for the mechanic to remove without having to clamp the crap out of the fork.

Cheers cheese, gotta love the timing ay, off home shortly, so Ill pull em apart and take them down to spectrum. im thinkin a box of beer may help the cause....

Hi,
its pretty staright forward. Pull the wheel off. loosen the fork clamps and out they slide. I am in kingsland today ,pretty slow at work and am the only one here. PM if you get stuck with it. I could give you a hand.
PS: trail ride at maramarua tommorow. PM if keen. Should be easy as if it dosent rain. Your brother should enjoy it too, cause i know he didn't like the riverhead one too much..(Did you guys end up getting tyres if so which ones as i need to change mine as well)

PS: Dont forget to take the brake calipers off the forks once the wheel is off

Thanks mate, yeah had a new tyre put on yesterday (MH3) after sliding my way round a dry thundercross on sat, my brother got perelli, makes me realize how buggered my old tyre was.

i change my fork oil seals my self, its pretty easy once youve done it before. the first time i did it, it took about an hour per fork, but now i can do it in about 30mins or less per fork.

fork seals are piss easy as said before can be done in half an hour just depends how far involved you get.
