Well it didn't when it was just a name change (i.e. when Vodafone first took over), but recently I got rolled over onto a Vodafone Red Network plan instead of a grandfathered iHug plan. Used to be quite a consistent connection but frequent desyncs occurred; was using a different IP range than I had on the iHug plan, so may well be different hardware or software running the connection pool. At first I thought upgrading router firmware to become ADSL2+ compatible (which is what Vodafone Red supports) might help, but it hasn't really. Lower attenuation, slightly higher speeds and better pings, but too far away from the exchange to really give a boost.

    I'm still having connection problems.

I think it was just co-incidence that unplugging the fax made any difference - speeds are all over the place..Currently it's

    (upstream 544, downstream 512 kbit/s)

This morning it was 2000 downstream. Last night it was 512.

Changes all the time. I reckon it's the exchange. ?

Sounds like a pair shared connection to me. It's either exchange or the local cabling network getting a work over. We've just had our copper bearers replaced with fibre and I haven't had a de-sync or speed variation since the new distribution boxes went in. I do have a dedicated line for my ADSL connection though.

Has there been any cabling going on in your neighbourhood lately?

    What's Vodafone said about it?
It's only when you take the piss out of a partially shaved wookie with an overactive 'me' gene and stapled on piss flaps that it becomes a problem.

Significant stormwater drainage and civil works within a few hundred meters do it?

Absolutely. Depends on whether or not there are shared conduits.

Phone Telecom and ISP. Ask pointed questions.

Taa - More likely sheared conduits.
There is a 10 meter crane lifting 2 meter ID pipes into place @ 200m.

Nothing, I'm too lazy to talk to them yet. Hasn't reached frustration threshold yet, and being (realistically) cynical, their response will be that it's my hardware and cabling in the house that's the issue, would I like a $100/hour tech to come around and spend 15 minutes with a digital meter poking around...

Yes, I'll call them eventually, and wonder why I didn't do it earlier.

It's worth a shot. I got well fucked off with TNZ's broadband. I rang up as Mr Meldrew, and spent about 3/4 of an hour with Mr Abdul.
He did troubleshooting on pretty much anything, and decided our wireless router was a bag of shit. Consequently, he sent us a new one, free of charge.

    Job's a good un.. it's now a bit better.

Rang Vodaphone - 'not our fault' talk to telecom - it's the line.

    -----------------------
    Dear David

    Thank you for contacting Telecom.

If you're having problems with your Broadband connection your only port of call is the ISP that supply's you with the broadband service. Please contact them is your not happy with the speeds they are providing you. There is nothing I can do to help you with if you're not a Telecom broadband customer.

If you have any further questions regarding Telecom products and services please visit our web site at http://www.telecom.co.nz

    Kind regards,

    --------------------
    Duly forwarded to vodaphone.

    Suggestions James?

There's a Vodafone Forum. Put a posting on there.
Or, send a PM to Paul Brislen. He's Vodafone's external communications manager, so has plenty of time on his hands to help you out.
