1. The Fijiian military dictatorship (self appointed) are in power.
2. A travel ban has been enforced by other nations, hopefully adding a bit of pressure onto the dicktator Frank Bunnybanana, to return to democratic election and rule.
3. Some relative of a lesser drone in the dictatorship, wanted to travel to NZ.
4. NZ said "Piss off Noddy".
5. Fiji kicks out NZ representative.
6. International relations require a simple return gesture and so the Fijiian chap is on his bike as well.

Yes, but they are'nt OUR responsibility, there are plenty of nations that could do with our support that would'nt kick out our M.Ps........besides, if you want to see hard done by go to India, you'll see Fijians don't have it so bad.....

You are correct, but Tourism is one of Fiji's main sources of income, along with sugar which has its price continually screwed around in much the same way milk and cheese has been here, they really don't have much of a way to claw themselves back. True, there are other countries in similar straits but at least India has (for instance) some of the worlds top scientists in various fields and a space program. With the speed at which they are developing 2nd or 1st world is not so far away. And while it may NOT be NZ's responsibility to care for a nation fucked over through no fault of its own, the least we can do is look after those fleeing a sinking ship that was sunk through no fault of their own, it's not like their entire population is even that high. Telling them to go home may not be a death sentence, but that doesn't make it any more right. It's this NIMBY behaviour that see's problems such as this and ethiopia and all the others perpetuate 'it's not my problem why should I do something about it?'.

Banarama was just testing the new Govt's resolve on Labour's ban on the regimes relatives entering NZ. He had to carry out his threat of expulsion just to save face.

We have enough funding issues here, the ambulance is'nt even a government department, with mostly volunteers, NEW ZEALAND needs more money spent on education, health etcetc yet we choose to help out an island nation with this money we need badly enough here.

And as for saying through no fault of their own.....well it was THEIR people that did this to them, nothing wrong with a bleeding heart and I applaud the sympthy....BUT there are plenty of places around the world like this, yes the people may suffer a little, but they can go somewhere else, plus aussie also contributes, I don't see why N.Z should constantly foot the bill for a nation whos leaders are acting like we are an enemy......

I've been sitting on the fence with this post. I had my own beliefs and ideas from the outset but too many times I have gone in with both feet and finished up with them in my gob.

I see that a few of you seem to have nthe same ideas as myself.

Forget actual war.

Withdraw all NZ financial support for this country. Make all Fijian nationals living in this country have a limit to their stay. Dont let their students come here and benifit from our educational system (as screwed as it is).

NZ has enough problems inside its own borders to be supporting other countries. Especially those that seem to kick it back in our faces.

I have no idea of exactly how much NZ benifits the fijian ecconomy but it has to be enough to build a hospital and staff it, or a new school, or some such enterprise.

I have never been able to understand why we have to support all these other countries with financial, military or social aid. Especially when we have children here leaving school unable to read. Outbreaks of Typhoid (Clendon), a massively rising violent crime rate, record numbers of citizens leaving the country and from what I have seen over the last 6 years a dereasing sense of our own self worth.

Break off all ties with any place that gives us shit. Why should we pander to their whims. Look after ourselves first. bring the pride back into living and bieng a New Zealander.

Too many years of this "politically correct" bullshit has left us with a massive inferiorority complex that we need to get over.

It isnt our responsibility to attone for the sins of our ancestors.
