Removing rear shock GSX400r how hard is it

Never done this sought of thing before but keen to get stuck into.

I think pull the wheel off and keep going until I get to the shock and rip her out.
Basic I know, is there any hints or tricks and advise anyone can offer.
The shock needs a rebuild so sending it away to get done.

For fucks sake! I might be up there in a week or so, you want me to do it? I'm worried you're gonna hurt yaself mate!

Get the back wheel off the ground, leave it in place in the bike. Have a grovel 'round under the bike to see what you can see holding the shock in. It'll only be two bolts.

Loosen those two bolts/nuts.

Place a siscor jack between the rear tyre and the subframe of the bike if the rear wheel is in contact with the ground. Gently jack it up to releave the weight on the shock. At the sweet spot, the bolts will slide out and voila! So will the shock.

Then romve the jack and INSTANT LOWRIDER!!! Get yourself some bling wheels and neons and Quasi's cruisin'

It's not difficult, just time consuming if you don't have the right tools or enough man power.

Since you need the swing arm to be free it can't rest on the race stands. When I did it, I just let the bike hang off the roof of my garage with a few ropes. Make sure that the whole bike is stable tho and it isn't swinging or swaying around. The bike tipped over on my first effort.

So do you have to lift the rear wheel of the ground ? or can it be done with the wheel on the ground, cause Im not sure if the clothes line will take the weight ?

Nah, leave the bike on the side stand, (or race stand would be better), and just do the jack thing. Peice of piss. The jack will take the weight of the bike off the shock.

And I was just goin' easy on ya old fellah!

Hey Mate, I ripped it out last night, it is certainly fucked.
I got some details of a guy in Tuakau he reckons $150 for the job.
I would be interested in your guy mate as I would like it done to me weight as well, I figure MLcrises is the same weight as me so we should do that.
Can you let me know your deal mate as I need to get it away

No it took a couple iof hours, just awkward getting the thing out of the frame. Pulled the Battery and undertray out and got it out through the top.

It is certainly fucked though

if you want any more info PM Sparky Bills, he had a gsx400rr which needed the shaft in the shock to be replaced. he should know a few things.
