    Power problem?

    Hi guys,

Just bought a CBR250R and it seems to have a power problem. Can't seem to rev it pass 11k rpm. Any suggestions or places to go get it fixed in Auckland.

If wanting to rev a CBR250 kitchen whizz beyond 11,000rpm is the answer, what's the question?

Could be it's not getting enough gas, fuel filter partially blocked...
Or same with air filter, could do with a blow out with an air gun....
    But it's a Honda.....it'll be something simple.

its an MC19 CBR so i think they are 19,000RPM redline.

i'd take a look at the following things.

Airfilter could well be old and gunked up
Fuel filter, make sure there is fuel getting past properly
sparkplugs may well be shot too, take a look at those make sure there is good spark coming from all 4

I'm in newton, the bike is off the road at the moment. Got to find a gear lever, broke it in an accident just before Christmas.

Correct it's MC19. Kinda annoying when your riding and you know the bike can do more. I'll pull off the tank in the weekend and check out the filters and spark plugs.

The bike has done 9,000 km, I suspect it's been sitting around for some time in japan.

9000 kms in 20 years of life is fuck all!
sounds like its been sitting for a long time. i would do those checks and see how it is, maybe look at your battery too? that may not be supplying enough voltage. ill measure the voltage on mine tomorrow when the engine is running to double check but it should be 13.8v or thereabouts when its running...

Fresh import, just complied & registered? Quite possibly just water down the plug holes.

I should have just taken the tank off earlier, I just wasn't confident enough to do it. The filter looked a little dirty and I can't figure out how to get the spark plugs yet.

I think i found the problem. A hose clamp on a fuel line was left off, hopefully that should have fixed it. No wonder I could smell petrol. I also found a few other problems with my bike while I was taking it apart. Obviously the previous owner have been screwing around with the bike.

Any way I went to put the fuel line back on the the tank and managed to put a split in it. .Once I go for a shop and get it running again I'll post back with an update.

Need to find a gear shifter as well.

Brought it off a guy on his learner that had it for 6 month. Will look at the plugs once I can figure out on to get the wrench down there.

First time you've mentioned that. You should have said something - I'm the fuel leak master... just ask the guys on the SATNR!

For hose just get some from Supercheap or Repco (they have 5/16" and above) or given it's a bike and so possibly an uncommon size (like the 5/32" oil hose I recently replaced on my boat's outboard) go somewhere like Enzed or Hydraulink. Just make sure it's oil & petrol resistant, not just windscreen washer hose. It'll be marked with SAE 30R7.
