Having just come into possession of a shiny new toy to play with, I am hit with the need to customise it a bit.

That rear window is, in my mind, just screaming out loud for nice large white Honda wing vinyl.

However I am struck by the question of whether or not it is legal? Do they have to be the semi-see-through vinyls like they have on windows on buses, or are you not allowed to do it at all?

Also, if anyone has a towbar to fit a sixth gen Accord wagon which they are willing to sell, please drop me a line. It's a poor towmobile without a towbar!

The closest information that I think I can find that relates to this:

Rear and rear side windows (behind the driver's seat) ­
Class MA vehicles except stretch limousines and body transfer vehicles:
Transparent overlays
· the overall visible light transmission (VLT) is not reduced to below 35%, and
· the vehicle is equipped on both sides with external rear-view mirrors.
Stickers
· the stickers are wholly within 100 mm of any edge, unless required or permitted by legislation.

How can you know if the VLT is still above 35%? Particularly considering how dark the windows are as it came out of the factory? Or have I missed something vital...

Those regulations apply to modifications. 35% is bugger all and your stock rear glass will already be darker than that, which is perfectly legal but you cant go darker.

If you put a big sticker over it itll be illegal unless its only within 100mm of the edges. Saying that lots of people do it anyway.

That is correct. 100mm in from the top or bottom, and 50mm in from the sides only. This depends on the class of vehicle but for any vehicle that is essentially a passenger 'car' (MA class) is subject to the above.
If you fit anything to the glass that goes beyond these limits 3 things are possible...
1. Have to remove at WOF time
2. Have to remove at roadside upon request (of a cop)
3. Will be ignored (at least for a time)

Oh, and in case you were thinking of using the stuff with holes in that you can see through (uni-vision)...sorry, it is a sticker like any other and will be treated the same.
