If you put a big sticker over it itll be illegal unless its only within 100mm of the edges. Saying that lots of people do it anyway.
Thats my understanding of it anyway.
That is correct. 100mm in from the top or bottom, and 50mm in from the sides only. This depends on the class of vehicle but for any vehicle that is essentially a passenger 'car' (MA class) is subject to the above.
If you fit anything to the glass that goes beyond these limits 3 things are possible...
1. Have to remove at WOF time
2. Have to remove at roadside upon request (of a cop)
3. Will be ignored (at least for a time)
Oh, and in case you were thinking of using the stuff with holes in that you can see through (uni-vision)...sorry, it is a sticker like any other and will be treated the same.
Check out Section 3 http://www.transfund.govt.nz/rules/g...rors-1999.html - note the newish rule that states you must have a working water squirt system onto your windscreen...you can/will fail a WOF for even having an empty reservoir

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?
