Phil (SVS) NZSBK Round 1 - Teretonga

    Teretonga

First round of the NZ superbikes 2009.

Last year teretonga was round 3 of the nationals, this year its going first. And it shows.

I'm so not bike fit at the moment and teretonga is quite a physical track.

Oh well, plan is to go faster than last year.

Practice on friday, managed to get in a couple of dry sessions after the rain.

Practice/Qualifying Saturday. Late start due to the ambo not turning up on time. Just as well - it gace time for the skies to clear and have some dry sessions. Qualified 16th (not last) with 1.06.4 (slightly slower than my fastest lap last year, but 0.1 quicker than i qualified, so that was good)

Race 1. Crap start, but went round the outside of Greg and Vaughan in turn 1. Managed to keep ahead of Vaughan for a couple of laps - but he got past and i couldn't stay with him.
In the later stages of the 15 lap races just tried to make sure I kept out the way of the fast guys coming through, which I mainly managed, but on the last lap Adam Chambers turned in on me into turn 2 and the bikes got locked together. We both went off track but somehow managed to keep it all upright and get back on track to finish the race so no harm done. Fastest lap was a 1.06.000 which is a PB but would have been nice to be a thousandth quicker and get a 1.05

Race 2. Much the same as the first, but got a shocking start so didn't manage to get past anyone on the first lap. Passed greg round turn 1 again and stayed there to the finish.

Haven't seen the lap times yet

Thanks to Robert Taylor (CKT) for lending me the correct weight spring for the rear shock for the weekend, and fitting it between everyone else. Hard working man is Robert.

and last superbike race is about to start...

then it's on to timaru and levels and hopefully my bike fitness will start to improve.

Keep at it brother. How can you be unfit with all the peddling up and down dale, and the sit-ups Stretch makes you do? There'd be no hope for me on a 600.
