    Angry Petrol stations suck!

Why is it that Petrol Stations are so dead set against sticking up promotional posters advertising Road Race events?????????
I went out today driving around asking petrol stations and other shop owners who were mainly on Highway 1 if they could stick up on the front of their shop windows a poster advertising the 2009 New Zealand Superbike Road Race Championships.
I went to shops like Bakery's, Cafe's, Video stores and Super Cheap Auto's as well as Repco where they were more than happy to put them up even while I was still standing there, and yet both BP who may I add are Castrol dealers and who sell Castrol oil and are the sponsors of the 2009 NZ Superbike Championships and Caltex refused straight away to have them put up inside their stores.
The excuse I got was it was against their policy to have any form of posters put up on there premises.
Can anyone tell me the real reason why petrol stations refuse to stick up posters promoting such an event???????

Unfortunately Petrol Stations are not usually owned "locally". They have restrictions on what they can and cant place on their walls because they have to advertise certain brands/specials and usually nothing else. All chains have to be identical, kinda...

    Sucks big time though

Its like that with most big national chains. They all have a national policy on visual merchandising "The way the store looks".
Sometimes you might get a Site manager who is okay with it but if the big bosses come around it will be gone faster than a gone thing!

They are pretty heavily controlled. They have to stock their shelves to set plans, their fridges to set plans so it is not surprising they are not allowed to put posters up.

It is a shame but that is how it is for them.

I'd assume it would be to stop the bombardment of lost cat/garage sale/flatmate wanted ads that would grace their shop windows otherwise, plus it can look tacky.

Having such a poster on display in a COCO (Company owned & operated) site could attract a point under inspection. Some Oil companies discipline their Site Managers if they score too many points. One told me once that 3 points from a single site audit & you're fired.

All comments above are basically correct, our group (11 sites) are usually okay with it ,mind you our owner rides which helps. One of the main reasons generally for the NO Poster policy is for security doesnt take long for a few posters to go up which blocks the view into premises therefore causing secuity problems.

When it came to asking the Petrol stations to put the Poster up I did understand that they couldn't put it up blocking the view of where the bowsers were so i even asked them to put it up on the wall behind where the cashier is and even that wasn't good enuf either. I can tell you thou my local GAS station was more than happy to put it up for me So thumbs up to them for doing so.

That might have something to do with the fact that G.A.S Waikanae is fully independent. So is Bohana Motors & Caltex North Highway in Paraparaumu (if it's still open that is).
