    AmeriCARna in New Plymouth

We're heading up to this American car show at the end of February and wondered if any locals had recommendations on where to stay. We want somewhere central rather than out in the backblocks, and somewhere reasonably cheap - but it must have its own bathroom/kitchenette and linen as we won't have much room for luggage in what we'll be heading up in.

Quite happy with cabin-style accommodation as long as it has its own bathroom!

Check out this and pick your likes and price range.
Might pay to book soon as AmeriCARna tends to be pretty popular.

I think there's a Top 10 Motor Camp in New Plymouth. These facilities generally have good cabin/motel amenities at a reasonable price, made even more reasonable if you sign up on line for one of their discount cards.

Most of the Top 10s I've been to are fine although Oamaru was a bit odd, I didn't like the steel doors and window frames...

I haven't stayed at The New Plymouth one but the BMW Owners Register members have and I didn't hear any complaints.

It doesn't actually fit your stated criteria but Boob Johnson of KB runs a backpackers situated reasonably handy to town and almost across the road from the venue.

(That's country style across the road, but it's easily walkable :-)

Sunflower Lodge? is Boobs joint, bloody tidy place, but lets the patrons get way to pissed.

Why not spend the night on way to or from at Whanga pub, nice break and only 60km from Stratford and sooo much fun while in the area, they do a good meal deal.

The event is in New Plymouth so Whanga is not on the way for us, and we wouldn't want to chip the paintwork on the baby we're being entrusted with by going through any gravel!

Got a couple of places that look interesting and one has a room for the nights we need, just waiting to hear back from the other as it is our first choice.

The other thing is getting registered - the chance to take a friend's car up came up on Monday and we may actually be too late to do more than attend, so fingers crossed.

The two holiday parks are about the same distance from the venue (not too far) but the prices aren't that cheap when compared with motels, and we want secure parking.

Found a nice place to stay - cottage accommodation near the park and it looks lovely and quiet and secure.

We were worried we'd be too late to register this close to the event but we've been told they are still taking registrations so that's good. The other half is worried I'll like the car we're taking up and want to keep it when we get home though! Hey, it's my birthday on March 3, and I've been really good this past year, so don't be a meanie! Or at least buy a Lotto ticket so I've got a chance of buying it!
