    Bluetooth for your helmet?

    Hi there,

Anyone use a blutooth headset in there helmet? If so which ones? Good points, bad points?

    I'd like your opinions!

    Thanks

Do a search for bluetooth and/or intercom using this site's most excellent search engine. You will find that this topic is a perennial and has been discussed to death on several occasions previously.

    Yep i use one.

I have the Nolan N103 helmet and I originally bought 4 blue ants. Hokup with other bikes in my flat.

The blue ants are limited to 2 total. They are also difficult to install on the Nolan helmet (but I did not want to permanently attach the things to my helmet so I didn't use the adhesive option.)

So I returned them and bought the Nolan blue tooth intercom kit, and the basic kit and don't forget the media wire for the mp3 player.

Works well haven't used it with another helmet yet, but I can listen to my phone convo and I can listen to the music in my mp3 player.
Apparently the range of the blue tooth is 10 m so you would have to be in close formation to talk via them bike to bike.

The helmet I have is a flip-face so fair amount of wind noise. other people who call me on my cell phone can hear me clearly when I am below 97kmph after that it gets a bit too noisy.

The speakers are nice and clear and the instillation of the kit is easy. I am a technical person though. you jsut have to position the mike so that you dont eat it when talkign or traveling
I find twisting it up so that it is in the space to the left of my eye just on the peripheral is out of the way but still can pick up sounds clearly.

I have had my nolan with bluetooth for around 18 months ....

When grub and I rode together the distance in line of sight is up to 50-60 meters .... but remember it is line of sight for the bluetooth to work ... with phone to phone (each have our on with bluetooth) .. we could be anywhere.

The mic sits nicely down in front of my mouth/chin area and that is well out of the way there ...

my wife and I have the blue ant headsets, 150 m distance (line of sight), 100 if not. Attachment is the only hassle especially a full face helmet. I used the the adhesive pad supplied. Works well paid $250 for 2 from cycletreads. Wouldn't be without them, actually love talking to my wife while we ride...

I have used the Scala Rider FM for the last few years in all sorts of Irish weather. It is a simple device and works fine. Loud enough at 160kph even with earplugs (not that I'll be able to ride that fast in NZ...).

Tried the Parrot SK4000, but went back to the Scala after a week. Volume was way too low, inaudible beyond 80kph.
The future's uncertain but the end is always near...

haha its started already . isnt half the point of biking to get away from all that?

i understand the safety concern side from her pov but surely a txt/call when you stop should be sufficient? Thats interrupting on "you" time, never a good thing, it just ruins it!

Then don't bother getting a good system and get a cheap and crappy one .. they won't bother you.

If you ride with your mobile on and it connnected ... the reality is you have a problem not the so-called idiot ...

why do i have a problem? i have a blackberry, old one, dont know if you know the model but if its charged its on. and yes im gonna have my mobile with me for reporting idiots and checking in with home every hour like i promised, but last thing i want when i just left the office is "hi um jones wants to know how to change the toner in the photocopier, can you walk him through it"
    like ah no!

I think its perfectly reasonable to want to be left alone when im riding.
