    Question +/- for trackdays

maybe an olde topic (prior threads) but I hope not an anyway things change ...

having just done 2 trackdays and with a handful more booked, i'd cite the following plusses and minuses but would be interested to know what i've missed (yet to learn)

    Plusses
    1. get it (speed) out of your system
    2. realise how dangerous public roads are
    3. get a reality check on how well you ride
    4. pick up a few skills in the gear change, braking and line-taking areas
    5. oh, and have some fun while so doing
    6. ? anything else ?

    Minusses
    1. the cost (seems very cheap in terms of training to me)
    2. ? anything else ?

Major -ve is the accumulating accommodation costs for the 2 nights spent in Taupo (for ppl without trailers)...besides that the track days are the best out there

    plus side is well documented.
negative side is often forgotten or ignored.
    My downfalls of a trackday.

insurance is a nightmare. I havent had a single at fault insurance claim and although claims were made that coverage for the track will be made on a case by case basis I get lumped in with all others reputation and have hiked up excesses 4x to go on the track.

weather. - uncontrollable for sure but road riding I can sit at home and any day the sun comes out I can jump on the bike and go for a ride. We have had fantastic weather all week and today - the day of the trackday which we have been waiting for - it rains. sucks.

Nearly all men can stand adversity and hard time, but if you want to test a mans true character, give him power....

-ve.... breaking your bike so you can't do the next one in a weeks time!

Well, that was just me. Just glad it is a simple fix and not a write off.

Plusses... Well, there is no way I would have gotten away with saving the pending highside come tankslapper on the public road without hitting a fence or pole!

For those playing at home I was at Manfeild and came out of the corner formally known as Coka Cola, and cranked on too much gas as I was exiting.
Got the back end out big time and the bike wanted to fire me into the tyres!
I held on, and she slapped like a bronko. First time ever in 6 happy years.....
Managed to ride that out only to find a HUDE pot hole off the side of the track.
Hit hard and launched the bike into the air... another slapper on the GRASS!

    Recovered that too....

What a ride. Damaged the front rim very badly... oh and my Sportec tyre with exactly 85 miles on it

At least I didn't break me or the bike though
