That appears to be a premium rate of 50% of the market value...hehehehe

All I'm whinging about is getting a letter in the post dropping theft cover unless I sleep chained to the bike, and promise never to ride it anywhere unless I return home the same day without stopping anywhere. With my claim they were fantastic, apart from the time required to settle.

The subsequent investigation about cover elsewhere revealed that very few insurers will cover for theft without prohibitive conditions, that effectively mean that you aren't covered unless you are home with your bike. Cunning plan to ditch the unskilled old guy who falls off all the time.

AMI will do full cover inc. theft with a $1000 excess for theft and $300 for accident or fire. Premium is pretty good too.

    Will call Classic on Monday.

    What Oscar said.

They won't cover for theft from anywhere other than my locked garage.

Doesn't need to be "chained" though.

Classic require a "secondary theft device". My understanding is that that includes a steering lock.

Correct. I'm covered by them. Two locks. Steering lock counts as one. Chain or disc lock counts as second. Otherwise it's not covered for theft. And they cover for track days (untimed events).

we have well over $100k worth of bikes insurance thru john baker, costs just over 2000 for all bikes, with all 6 people in the family covered on all the motorcycles.

This is for full cover, full replacement for new bikes 2 years or 20,000kms which ever comes first, there is no condtions about theft in the policy

This policy is under my father in law, who gets the special uylsses discount. We have never had the need for a claim as of yet for the 5 years of being with them. They premiums arn't to bad unless you ride a harley.

I have heard some good things about protector and they say they specialish in motorbikes

Good luck with Jim, hope ya find something to suit you quickly, and cheap (c:<

Protecta are a nightmare - they'll cover you but heaven help you if you hit a GT3. You'll be paying 20% of the value of the other vehicle as excess if you write it off and it's your fault.

And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

In case it slipped by you, there is no mention of having to have it chained and locked up and only covered for theft in your place of abode.

What's with the sarcasm? My current insurer is Westpac not AMI.

IF you read up above you'll see that I've been to AMI this morning, and after an hour long interview, they agreed to the terms I typed further up in the thread.

The critical financial details on my proposal read:

    Yearly premium: $557

    Excess on Fire Claims $300

Excess on Theft, Conversion or Malicious Damage Claims: $1000

All other claims, if the driver or person in charge is J Walsh: $300

So I'd better get saving that $1000 dollars, so I can at least get a bike for the same value as the one I have now when my current one is stolen.

The other good news is we got better House and Contents quotes from the other 3 Insurers we spoke to about that this morning, so Westpac are losing all our business, plus we're refinancing the mortgage we have with Westpac with another bank. All over a stupid clause they added to the bike insurance.

More stress, but UP YOURS WESTPAC.

    Sarcastic? Not me. :spudwhat:

I was trying to impress your point that AMI don't expect you to never be more than half a day's ride from home. At least they'll pay out for theft.

But I still don't get why they quoted you a grand for theft. That's just ridiculous.

I had the same problem with my twin-turbo Subaru. Is it because Suzukis are more likely to get stolen?

Maybe its because no-one in their right mind would want to steal my bike...

Ok this one is sarcasm this time - why do you think someone's going to steal your bike?

    Hah-hah

I'm a walking example of Sod's law. Now that there's been issue with theft cover, the bike's days are numbered.

When was the last time you got out for a decent ride fella?

Sounds like you got cabin fever...

Give me a call for some interesting news on our domestic front.
