Just a thought, Sarge.... you haven't put any "green river" through the 'ace, have you?
The lead in it may foul the exup valve

Sarge. The man to have a yarn to is Paul In NZ. He did a truck load of work on an old FZR400 which has an earlier version of the same thing.
As I recall one issue was the cables and another was just plain ol seized up. Yon ace might have been "brand new" but its still a few years old
My experience is with 2 stroke power valves and I've spent a few evenings polishing them to a mirror finish so they open n close smoothly

I'm pretty sure you don't lube them - they are supposed to have a special bearing and is quite a loose fit anyway.

They do seem to pick up road muck though and the ends of the cables seem to get dry n mucky which does not help.

Personally - I put this in the same category as sparkplug threads. Most anything you use will just dry out and eventually make things worse except i this case it will also pick up rocks in grit.

pm me if you need any bits, there is a dude in the states thats a good source of spares.

and he keeps talking about "copper grease"

Never heard of it before myself..
Correct answer, Used the Copper base Never seize / or Copper coat product, Silver paste is not as good for this job. The bushes need to be lubed.

Interesting, the Nickel based (silver) is the hi-temp stuff.

Get some Loctite (or similar ) Nickel antisieze and you can be assure it will lube anything that gets hot . It is designed to withstand 1200deg C so if you get a hotter section on a bick i suggest a trip to the fire dept.
Copper is good as well but remember to NEVER use copper grease on alloy . it reacts and will make a mess of any thread or sleeve fit .
Nickel is compatible with any metal at any heat up to the max range.

In saying all that , im sure the EXUP is a plain unlubed bush as stated further up this thread.
