    When motel owner asleep

Flew up to Auckland on wednesday night for work on Thursday. Flight delayed and didn't get to motel until 11:30pm

Well motelier was asleep, front door after hours bell didn't work and I rung the reception number. Rang on for a couple of minutes.

I saw one unit left locked up and figured it was mine. Saw the window adjacent to the locked ranch slider door was open (hot evening). All I needed was some sort of pole, broomstick etc...

Luckily the guest laundry was still open. I helped myself to a floor mop, then used that through the window to flick the latch and hey-presto, I was in the unit.... only to hear behind me "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING!?!?!!!!"... so I calmly replied "checking myself in!"

He was ok afterwards.... but told me "I shouldn't do that".

It's when you check yourself out in the middle of the night that the trouble really starts.
Arguing with an Engineer is like wrestling a pig in mud.

After a while you realise the pig is enjoying it.

Had you organised to check in at this hour?

Edit: just re read, your flight was delayed & you didn't call to advise them of a later arrival time & to check if this was ok?

Who would of thought a motelier would have a life aye?

I just ignore the phone or door bell when it rings at stupid hours, some people just have shit for brains & are extremely self centered
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded

Yeah i would have stayed away from ringin the bell and just read the opening hours so i could set my alarm for 30 min b4 then !
Twenty yrs ago i would have let myself into the laundry if it was the middle of winter lol and turned on a dryer !
Trouble with prepaying with a credit card now days is they got ya money, they aint gonna lose any sleep over lost revenue !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

No I hadn't organised to check in. Note: I didn't criticise the motelier. It was my fault for not pre-arranging My mind was on my work the next day, so never thought about when the motel might shutdown for the night. Now at least I know when he goes to bed.

Funny thing is I'm booked to stay there in a couple of weeks... wonder if he'll still be happy with me staying! (depends on whether he needs my money I suppose)

Just check to see what time you will arrive there... and inform them of such. They may not be as polite next time...
