    Clubmans at Manfeild Nats?

After being away at work for most of this month I was hoping to to do the Clubman's support race at the Manfeild round of the National's in February. I figured there'd be a few people who didn't feel comfortable with the Nat's level of competition but would still like to turn a wheel in anger.

    I figured wrong.

There's no open Clubman's type class 'cos hardly anyone showed up last year (direct from Vic Club rep). It seems we are victims of our own apathy.

Given the low numbers of Championship competitors as well how long before the whole show just dissolves?

There are no clubmans as the club chose a different support class .. that being open-twins - each year the people running the session get to chose their support class.

Cheers Slowpoke, I think you should enter ! The way it is going you may be shooting for top 5 and at the very least top 10 ?
Would you really want to put the trophy on the wall if you won it ??? Gaz.

Yep, I spoke to the very helpful Sue at Vic Club when I wasn't sure what the go was. The feedback I received was that they had a very poor response with general Clubman's entries last year, hence they are trying something different this year. I hope they get a good turn out, but if an open support class didn't get much response then I don't see how making it more restrictive will enhance numbers. I hope I'm wrong and lotsa twins come out to play, I'll still be there watching.

Bloody oath, mate! Nobody else has to know I was last and 2 laps down, haha.

I would if I wasn't worried about getting in the way. I wouldn't mind coming last in that company but I'd hate to have a race decided because I broke up a Shirriffs, Jones, Stroud, Bugden freight train on the last lap/corner. I'm improving but not quite enough at this stage.

Can't see it happening, if you'd been around racing for very long you would have seen numbers like this in the past

True? I've only been back in the country a few years after a long time away so I'm well out of touch with many years of past results/entries. It's just frustrating to see club entries on the increase yet Nationals entries declining in the few years I've been back.

Hopefully you are right and the pendulum swings the other way soon when the economic forecast isn't so gloomy.

One bright spot has been the standard of racing. As Jay stated in his post the pace is hotter than ever at the front and our best are matching it with the Aussie raiders in all classes.

I was very supprised at last years nationals, I had heard that the vic series was the most supported series in the country, yet there was only about 2 other bikes in the field (600's) that weren't doing the whole nats?
I thought that people would use that series to practice to do a national event and compare themselves to the guns?
Going by some of the lap times at the vic series these riders certainly wouldn't be disgraced at nationals!

The show won't dissolve, I know I for one still want to ride, there is already talk of modifications to the SB class.
Also, you only have to look at Dave Manuall this year to see that you don't have to be on the latest bike to get out there and compete (he is on a K3 Suz 600 and going hard!)

Also, sweet constructive input jrandom, way to add your two cents for the good of the sport.
