Hyosung 250 chains and sprockets?

How many Ks have rider got before they had to replace their chains and sprockets.

After my last service they said I was getting to the point where it needed to be done, and I'd done 8000 K's

I've got not idea if this is normal or not...I probably haven't been doing enough maintenence, as for the first 4000Ks I didn't even know I had to lube the chain at all.

I've been looking at the chain tension...but haven't adjusted it ever cause it never seems that loose (based on the youtube instructional vids I've seen)

So how long should they last?
When I get them replaced is it worth upgrading the parts as well?

The OEM chain & sprockets aren't that flash and aren't set up properly to start with from the factory

I assembled a GV250 Aquilia yesterday and to set the chain tension to the right amount of deflection had to adjust it to just over half of the allowable adjustment on the tensioners so by the time the chain beds in there's going to be stuff all adjustment left

GT250s aren't as bad for some reason for this.

You could get a link removed from the existing chain to save yourself some coin instead of replacing the chain or if you intend keeping the bike for a reasonable length of time throw a chain & sprocket kit at it, something along the lines of a RK chain & PBR sprocket kit would be adequate and are readily available.

What sort of prices do these cost.
The shop mentioned it would be something like
$30 for a front sprocket
$120 for a rear sprocket
$120 for a chain

Just having a look at cycltreads online catalogue, and these prices seem about the same as what I see on there.

Try closer to $150-180ish for a complete set Chain & both Sprockets

individually a front sprocket is between $15-20, the rear about $50ish and the price of the chain is about right

I had my chain replaced at 12000k's. I've now done 15000k's and the sprockets are still all good. Make sure you don't tension the chain to tight. Its better for it to be loose than to tight.

I replaced the Hyo chain at 11600k and then again at 36000k, I have now done 58000k and it is probably going to be replaced at next service

That's fucking nasty man - my rear sprocket is only $45, front $20, all up including chain a nice round $200.

My chain was in a right state by about 12000kms. Due to circumstances i didnt get it replaced for another 5000's k's or so (which was actually only about 4 weeks later) and it made the world of difference. For the record the chain was $115 for me also.

Also does anyone have a good recommendation for aftermarket sprockets and chain? I am keen to upgrade to try and get longer life out of these components.

Cycletreads in Auckland do a deal where you can get an X-ring chain and front and rear sprocket set for $249. From what I gather I think they do postage as well. I have had this done and I don't regret it for a second - chain is good and sprockets seem solid.

The reason the chains are noisey is because some replacement/aftermarket sprockets dont have a rubber damper (sp?) on the front sprocket. I just had my chain and sprockets replaced literally 1/2 an hour ago , it was $200 for the RK chain and 2 PBR sprockets plus $80 to have them put on.

The PBR sprockets that come stock on the Hyo's are fine usually. Its just the bitch of a chain that seems to destroy them even George from Motorcycle docs said that the chains are real shite and even if you do maintatin them well they still wont last as long as most others.

Near 10K for the chain which was done at my recommendation. Still on the same sprockets as I dont think they need replacing yet.

I've just done 10,000 k's on my GT250R and haven't replaced either chain or sprockets yet. My son, however, has replaced his chain on his GT250R probably at about 5000k's or so. We regularly use chain wax on our chains.
