All fitted - emulators and springs - actually costing about $300 more than I had hoped....
Results?
1. Much more stable under front brake - no longer dives into the road.
2. More compliant on bumpy roads - specially in the corners.
3. No more 'clank' when I cross the gutter into my driveway.
4. Makes the shortcomings of the rear shock MUCH more obvious...dammit.
Overall the bike feels more stable. Special thanks to RT for advice to the workshop here in Hammerstown...

So how much all up?
was thinking of springs and emulators in my uber-soft-non-adjustable-forks on my Fazer.
On the other hand I could just put some spacers in to act as preload, and go with heavier oil to act as crude dampening...
Yeah - did that to all of mine up until the Buell - it was already sorted.
Makes a huge difference when you fit that Ohlins too.
It amazes some how fast my T'bird goes through the twisties.
Cartridge emulators and springs and an Ohlins and its a tight as a sprotsbike. Just the setup that makes it so.
thanks to HenryDorsetCase .. I've just done the front and back on the McHornet
MUCH more compliant in the corners .. 'specially the shitty corners on the divi

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
Springs is OK - Sonic Springs do very reasonably priced ones (just don't believe what their spring calculator tells you - go a bit softer), and they do internet orders and overseas shipping. Excellent service!
The problem with doing your own emulators etc is getting the shim stacks right.
... and that's what I think.
Or summat.
Or maybe not...
Dunno really....![]()
emulators don't have shim stacks, just a (non-adjustable) check valve for the rebound direction and a poppet valve with adjustable preload (and spring rate if you change the springs) for compression. Racetech recommend a standard setting, which I guess can be optimised further if you have the knowledge or want to try different settings, but the standard setting is good enough for me (although I might mess around with it in the future to see what I can learn).
I agree with you that Sonic Springs are good (ie, cheaper than racetech and pleasant to deal with).![]()
